Hi guys, can anyone recommend a model and where to buy a good flight bag? Scheduled flying in a twin turboprop.

I hope I'm not insulting your intelligence here kiwi, but if you don't already know of this website, it could be an option. Prices seem pretty fair. Sorry, can't give you a personal opinion as I have no need for anything more than a headset case.

I got one of these (http://www.usluggage.com/product/B151.htm) from the Sydney Luggage Centre in Mascot, Sydney (yeah I know, not very close to you.)

Pros:

It has wheels! so you don't have to lug it everywhere.
Fits four jepp binders or equivalent, or two jepp binders and a laptop in its own laptop bag.
Has a fold out expanding file section.
Plenty of nooks and crannies for pens, passport, wallet etc.

Cons:

It is fairly big (fits snuggly in a Dash 8 flight bag holder.)
It doesn't have a combination lock but rather some slots that allow you to use padlocks, I don't care because I never lock bags like that, but you might.

It was around $140 Aus (discounted from something close to $200) and is made of "ballistic nylon", it is not leather and doesn't try and look like it is. The Sydney Luggage Centre give a %10 discount for flight crew, you may find somewhere near you that has a similar deal.

I've been very happy with it so far.

Mate, if you've got the $$ to spend and you like a bit of pomp and ceremony try here (http://www.scottleather.com/)

Best one I ever had was a Woolies (or Coles for that matter) plastic shopping bag. Easily holds a couple of Jepp binders and your headset. When you get to the cockpit you just fold it up and put it in your pocket. Also cheap to replace. :}

Since you live in New Zealand and you're probably looking for somewhere in NZ..try Wharehouse Stationary..they have a model which is slightly smaller than standard..will fit between front seats in a PA-31..thats saying something!..and is cheap as chips..about $30 bucks if memory serves me. Strangely enough for the Wharehouse-they last for ages!!??

I use a small backpack/satchel. Can sling it over my shoulder when walking & fits in front of my seat when working.
