Good afternoon,

Just a question,

How doe's one get a job with BAA airfield Ops and what are the best qualifications to do so????

Simple. Leave the country and throw away your passport, then return via (say) Dover and request political asylum claiming to be stateless. Then apply to BAA for a job as a cleaner; once in you can go through the staff VN's and find the job you need.

There are actually many airside and landside jobs being recruited now by the BAA - 130ish is the number I heard - all supervisory and management.

They are not being advertised by the BAA - but by two seperate recruitment companies who are screening on BAA behalf . Interviews are daily at LHR.

Try looking in the main jobsite web sites - using the search engines for
'airport' 'flow manager' airside manager or such words........

[NOT the specialist airport/airline job sites......]

I have been on the website. The job descriptions are some of the most Vauge I have seen but still manage to waffle on for 3-4 pages. I'm probably not in a position to apply for the Maanagers positon's anyway.
My main concern was that you would have to do as Chevvron said and work your way up from Cleaner!!

If you aspire to be airfield ops 'yellow peril' then your aspirations are low...no doubt they get paid some huge ammount but they are thought of by everybody else on the airport as mini hitlers in yellow vans.....mind you they do provide good entertainment when marshalling aircraft on to stands....sure some of them must have elbows and wrists that have been disjointed....

Although I appreciate your comments, you don't have the 1st idea about who I am and what my long term goals may be.
If you look down your nose at that particular profession, fair enough. That's who you are and I won't try and change your hint of ignorance. However, what makes what you do and who you are so special as to mock my aspirations?

If your a Pilot then one day maybe I will be working for Ops and provide you with so robot like entertainment.

While Captain Rat's comments about calling them "mini hitlers" is a bit harsh, I can only agree about the humourous aspects of watching them guide aircraft on stands! Truely an art form which must take years of training! ;)
Gets even better when they still guide a Fokker either too far or too close. Thus requiring a tug to reposition the aircraft and causing a further 10 mins delay to disembark!:E

They seem to like to do this with the A346 too. Then who foot's the bill for the tug to come out and re-position the a/c - yes the airline :mad:

All because the BAA are too lazy to paint the stop bars properly on the stand, and add the a/c type to the PAPA board !!.

Then when you call up Airfield Ops to complian - you get an "Oh Sorry" or "well our guy indicated to stop but the Capt stopped too early/late*" - *delete as applicable !!!.

What i meant is that people never leave, (ie) to fill Dead's mans shoes means that someone has to die or retire before a vacancy arises.

A similar situation would be many of the Airline reps, especially in T3 - LHR.
Many of the 1 / 2 flight a day operators have very well paid staff with all the perks etc, so consequently they never leave - why would they, however in ny experience working for both an airline and a handling agent, these people become very insular, not realising the harsh financial realities of the avaition world.

I won't name any airlines in particular but take a look around T3, at several non UK carriers and you will see what i mean !
