Question to Citation X guys.

My boss fell in love with that plane and he is thinking about buying a new one. The problem is that now we are operating CJ1 from very short runway (900 m = 2952 ft). Fortunately, they are going to make it longer before delivery of Citation X. What is reasonable runway length (acc. to TFL, LDA) that I should fight for? Basing on your experience, not just tables.

Yogi

P.S. I know, the longer the better, but...

where are you going with it. A quick hop is a lot different than a full load of gas.

How long is the runway going to be (in feet) and i'll give you some ideas of what you can do with it.

I can tell you that they better be adding another 1000 feet if you want to go anywhere at all.

The stopping distance is amazing, big brakes and tr's. The takeoff distance with those swept wings makes it different.

PM me with your email.

:)We used to operate comfortably from Santa Monica Airport, Los Angeles area, I believe, (memory), it was forty nine hundred and something feet, worked well. If you are flying around Europe, you would probably not have a range problem. Stops really well, good brakes, thrust reverse. Depends a bit on takeoff airport elevation, SMO was basically sea level.:)

Just looked at your thread again, see if they can add 2000 feet, will really reduce the pucker factor. With the extreme swept wing, temperature in the summer time will be a factor. I have an older manual, I will see what I can find in there for you.

Good Luck

Hi guys,

Thanx for fast replies. I see that LDA is the same story as CJ1. Tables show LDA = 2940 ft with ISA and MLW, but practically I am able to fully stop using just half of that distance. That's good :ok:

Runway elevation is 1000 ft AMSL. Average temperature during summer season 20-25 Celsius, max. 30 Celsius.

Let's consider two cases:

1. ISA+10, 5 pax, 100 NM + 100 NM alternate and 30 min holding, to fly for refueling to bigger airport nearby and then fly further for long distance. We use that procedure with our CJ1, now.

2. ISA+10, 5 pax, 1000 NM + 100 NM alternate and 30 min holding

Regards,

Yogi

#1. If you want runway numbers I'd have to look it up I figure 4000lbs of fuel and thats way on the conservative side. We use 1300lbs as our reserve fuel. 4k is more than enough.

#2. I'd have to go into the books to get the exact number. I'll post it tomorrow. Shouldn't be more than 3800ft or so.

I'll have more exact numbers but depending on runway both should do. The numbers might change quite a bit from 30 to 25. The FMS goes up to the next level. Unlike the CJ the X won't post the numbers unless it has the runway and climb gradiant required.

We operate to the east coast out of SMO all the time. Not a problem, of course off the end of the runway you can go down to the water. :)

Hi,

assuming:-

your BOW is about 22,500 ( fairly average )
pax at about 200lbs inc small bags, 1000 total
planning cruise at FL430 ( flt time about 2:00 hrs )
Fuel required will be in the region of 4500 plus say 2000 as reserve,
so you'll want an available rwy of 4200-4300ft

check your pms too

2000lbs are a bit high for reserve. We use 1300lbs which is more than enough.

It also depends if you use flaps 15 or not.

Another thing that might change it if you have an IGW X or not. What serial number is it?

Using 2000 as a ballpark/rule of thumb, precise reserves depend on many factors as you will agree but its served me well as a 'quick and dirty'

I assumed 15 flap as we are talking about shorter runways and no obstacles. As for the s/n - I've flown many from the low 10s to the high 100s - I was guessing a later model here.

With your experience I suggest to try with airlines. That segment is rising very fast in Poland and I think we are going to run out of Polish pilots soon.
