Johannesburg - South Africa and Botswana were co-operating in a search for a missing South African light aircraft on Thursday, the department of foreign affairs said.

Foreign affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said the Cessna 172 had taken off from Lanseria airport near Johannesburg on Thursday morning, bound for Madikwe in Botswana.

It was scheduled to arrive at Madikwe at 11:00, but failed to do so.

By Thursday evening it had not reached its destination, nor could it be traced.

The Botswana Defence Force and Aeronautical rescue in Johannesburg were co-operating in a search for the plane, with registration ZS-OBX.

South Africa's diplomatic mission in Botswana had raised the alarm, Mamoepa said.

No further details were available. (Unqoute)

Let us all hope for the best that the crew and passengers, if any, are to be found safely. Our thoughts and best wishes to all involved.

Any one with new info?

Gentlemen-
The News 24 correspondent apparantly doesn't even know that Madikwe Game Reserve is still with South Africa [ although lying on the Botswana border ]

Otherwise the news is very sad. Condolences to family.

Hi
Just to clear up any confusion. Madikwe is in SA, but he airstrip comes under Botswana control for arrivals and departures. I imagine this is due to terrain.
Botswana would have had them on radar as well.

Sad loss.
