CX MATHS EXAM

I have been told that you now have to pass a maths exam at the interview.Has anyone been given sample questions,or is there a book out there that would be useful in practising for these exams.

The maths is not as awful as it sounds. If you can get a book which teaches you shortcuts to answers you will find you are not so time limited. It is basic maths- adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplication of simple but large numbers, as well as some conversions, so some basic algebra will help too.

My advice- skip the first question (of which there are three sub-questions) and move on to the next. Some questions are hard, some are very easy but require alot of working (I used pretty much every square cm of the working paper we were given- no calculators). Don't get bogged down in trying to answer a question you are toiling with as there are 16 answer options. I wish I hadn't have spent so much time on the first question as the second last was a dead give away and I didn't get time to answer it.

Don't worry too much about it, I don't think I did very well in it and still got through. :D

I did the first interview on April 6th. My second one is on June 20th... There is a Math test during the second interview.

Hey all, for what its worth...

I had my final in march, maths test was not so daunting!

11 questions, each with 3 sub parts, each with 16 multiple choice answers. 1 is hard, 1 is medium 1 is not too medium.

Crazy questions like: The are 5 Riyals in a Dinah, 100 Dinahs in a meshek, 500 mesheks in a peletan. If you 800 peletan's and 100 dinahs, how many whole mesheks do you have?

crazy logic type questions. I managed to get through all q's. do the easy 2 and look at the hard one, come back later if you start taking long!

Ha. Those Riyals and Dinars are so familiar.
Had word that the test is a spinoff of an exam they give accountant wannabes for quantitative skills analysis. Even if you're not gifted in that department, chances are your cohorts will be scratching their heads in that room with you. I was under the impression the 6th floor people were looking more at how you tackle a situation which might seem overwhelming (read plough away at all the easy ones and go back to the hard ones if you have time). A couple of choices in each of those 16 answers can be fairly close together too. Watch out.

I remember someone pointing this link out to me. Maybe give it a try if you haven't already, the numerical part was about the same level as the easy and medium questions. Too bad there are no samples of the ludicrous questions.
Don't worry if you don't get all of them. I think my mates and I would have been lucky to score an embarassing 50 - 60%. Maybe that was just me.

yea i should've done that during my maths test, it's easy to say but hard to do. I had in my mind before the interview that, when it comes to the maths question, i'd do the easy one first! but no...i failed to do so, therefore failed my 2nd stage!

Hey guys,
Did my second interview for DEFO recently, and found out I was successful; here's my take on the math portion.
First of all, you probably wont finish it. No one does, unless they just guess at the answers, I suppose (of which there are 16 choices, so the odds are'nt in your favor to guess). So don't sweat it. Also, generally the third question out of the three is the most difficult, but not always. Some guys who made it through the 2nd interview with me answered the first two questions in each group, then tried to go back and answer the 3rd. I answered the questions in order to the best of my ability until time ran out. Apparently either way works.
The point is, dont get wrapped up in the math test, it's just one little part of a very intense process. There are a lot more important things to prep for. Good luck to all of you, it's really an amazing place!

i think improving your maths is a rather generic kinda of skill

you won't need an airline specific kind of training to help you improve - there's lots of help out there (both on the net and in books) which can help you improve on your maths skills :8

I second what J32driver posted...we were in HK together. I really wouldn't sweat it or put much effort into studying for it. I answered 18 q's and guessed at most of the answers. I probably only got a handful of them correct. Your time will be best spent on a sim prep and studying for the interview. Good luck.
And I was successful on P2 despite doing poorly on the math test...Amy gave me the good news tonight.
