Word on the street is that EAT have given notice to 10 pilots all over 60.
Their termination date is just ahead of the EU age discrimination laws implementation in Nov 2006.

If true a deliberate and despicable act. A direct action to circumvent legislation that has already been passed but is simply awaiting its implementation date.
A terrible way to treat long standing employees!

I hope this will see its day in court....!! Good luck to you all

Utterly incredulous. Hang your heads in shame.

Can anyone in the EU please post a link to the exact wording and current details regarding the age discrimation law. I realise that some of the fine print is yet to be agreed re individual state authority/deviation.

Brussels being the 'home' of the EU Parliament one would have expected more.....perhaps? :*

Thank you.

Could the reason be that firing older pilots will save the airline on pensions costs?

Some US major airlines years ago hired may pilots who were about 43-48 years old because the airline saved on retirement costs (now this is 'up in the air' for pilots at most airlines here).

Many of these older guys had just finished a full-time career in the military and began receiving their military checks before they were hired by their first airline.
