Cabin crew with children????

Hi im new to this site and have looked throught a fair amount of it but I now have a general querie.......

Are any of you guys (cabin crew im referring to) parents, to young children?
If so can I ask how many you have, what ages they are and how do you find juggling parenthood with the job?
I have applied for long haul work and even though my children are no longer hanging onto my apron strings, as the case may be, they are not grown up either.......
And just wondered if there was anyone else in a similar situation.......
Or are you all young, free and single????

No kids myself, and not cc yet... but have come know many crew...

I knew of a husband and wife who both worked Long Haul. They were always rostered on the same flights. Had been flying for ages, so very senior. They had two or three kids of different ages but all in school. They commuted to their base about a two - three hour drive. They lived in the country on a farm. Anyway, his parents lived with them, so essentially did everything whilst they were away.

It would be tough whilst both parents are away, but when they are home, they are around 100% of the time.

For your situation, I presume that your partner is able to manage everything while your away. The kids will soon come to know that you are away for a week, but then you are back for 5 whole days without having to go to work at all. This would also give your partner a well earned rest. It will be hard on christmas and birthdays. But then they will always get really cool presents from New York, Bangkok and Tokyo!

Give it a go! If it doesn't work out, you can always go to short haul.

Any opinion will be appreciated........ As you say long haul is for the young, free, and single, surely the kids come first?, i would stick to short haul until they have grown up a bit, remember you can never get those times back, once they have grown they have grown, make the most of it!

Hi, starting flying short-haul when my children were about 5 and 9. Had my partner and my parent's support (my parents lived next door). Mostly did overnights, leave early in the morning, overnight return home next night. Managed to juggle it alright, but couldn't have done it without the support I had.
Started medium haul (7-9hr flights overseas, which are up to 10 days away) about 3 years ago and had to move away from my home town (and my parents). Have a great husband who works 7am-4pm and his work is quite flexible which helps.
Children are now 14 and 11 and coping really well. I talked to another flight attendant whose father is a flight attendant to see the effect it had on her when she was growing up and she said it was a great lifestyle and she doesn't feel like she missed anything because he was away alot because he always made up for it when he was home.

I disagree ! Although, very much depends on the type of rostering and trip allocation. I have been lucky as Qantas Long Haul has a seniority based bidding system which has allowed me to be home most weekends and special events. A good family backup has also been a determining factor. Have been abe to stick to 1 to 5 day trips. Again, as we all work in different countries and under varying conditions, it would be impossible to give an overall opinion.
