Does any one have information about the airstrip at Bau, Sudan - length, surface, condition etc.

Baau N08.25.71 E027.45.20
16/34 Trees both ends. 500m

Boaw N08.50.772 E029.43.763
15/33 Unable to land when wet. Difficult to see the strip. Cattle track and pretty rough. 600m

None of them a problem for a Twotter.:ok:

Thanks SRT - One of these was a problem for an Antonov AN32 in March, apart from the length of the strip, its main undercarriage 'ran into a hole' causing 'fuselage deformation'. Both these strips sound too short for an AN32 - have you seen one lying around at either in the last month?

I have not been in the area for ages, but are you not perhaps thinking of Wau? That would be long enough for an AN32. Wau vs Bau vs the other names above... seem to all sound similar and could be confused?

Believe an Antonov of some sort had some problems and blocked the runway at Wau for a day or two in Sept/Oct '05.

I think it must be Wau - the original report was translated into Russian and then back to English by someone else so Bau/Wau could be easily confused. The runway condition was said to be 'very poor' and I seem to remember critisism about the condition of the Wau runway before. The accident happened on March 26 and the aircraft will still be there unless the locals have 'salvaged' it.

good long strip, for anything up to C130/AN-12.

Anything smaller (BE20, B190) land abeam airport buildings to the left of centre-line.
Solid surface, can take about 2hrs of heavy downpour before you can't get in or out. 4-5 AN-12's in there everyday so it's a bit bumpy.
