View Full Version : EK DXB-HAM-JFK traffic rights?
Since EK just announced their third JFK service to be started Oct 29th via HAM with B773, does anyone know whether they have the traffic rights to carry passengers between these two cities? Meaning that Passengers will be allowed to board for JFK in HAM and the other way round. Or will it be just a fuel stop where pax are either dropped (to JFK) or picked up (from JFK).
Isn't a B773 a bit on the big side for that sector? As far as I know the only North American flight from HAM is with CO to Newark. Does HAM really have enough potential for such a flight with such a big airplane? After all, there is a little bit of competition as well.

You can bet that EK have done their homework. I'm sure they will have worked out a business plan for the route .Especially if they are putting on a B777-300

EK has (or will have) traffic rights, otherwise they would just put another A345 on the route. And as for competiton, as far as I know, there's not a lot of direct flights to NY (or the USA) from Hamburg and Rur-area as far as I know...
Flight Ops in EK might be a disaster, but most of the time, our commercial team has it spot on... not for nothing that EK sponsors Hamburg football.

It was made some days ago, I guess about on the 21st. Where it was made? I guess somewhere in DXB HQ? Perhaps in HAM as well, don't know.
But if you're afraid I'm just setting up a rumour here, no, it's not a rumour as far as I know. After all I heard of from a competitior, who is once again not really happy. Nor do they understand it, but I was only interested in whether they will be able to add payload and not really whether the competitors like it ;) so didn't ask any further.

Come on, why should we know about this. The only thing that matters from a Flight Ops perspective is whether there are bums in the cockpit when the first one is scheduled to depart.

For the info of EK guys, you can usualy get the most up to date info on A/C types and routes via Trips or Subload prediction on the portal.That ties directly with what info is available to travel agents etc. and is usually more accurate than what we are provided by flt ops. Unfortunately it's a little bit of work as you must be specific on the routes and days to get the info you desire. Good for trends of destination migration between types as well. And yes, DXB-HAM-JFK is there from Oct 29. A 777 departs DXB about 25 min after the 201 direct flight, and the return flight departs JFK 15 minutes following the direct 202. It could prove helpful as a contigency plan for those stby pax trying to get to/from North America...at least till it fills up, which by my guess wont be very long away.:ok:
