Having read the numeorus ads and made enquiries it seems that no CPL / IR training school will commence your flying training until you have successfully passed all ground school exams, whether CPL, IR or ATPL.

However, I have not been able to find this as a mandatory requirement anywhere, and it certainly does not state in LASORS that the ground school / flying training must be completed in any particular order, merely that all examinations (Sec. D1.4 & E1.4) must have been passed prior to taking the skills test.

It may seem stupid to some to commence the more expensive, practical part of the training before the relatively cheaper theoretical studies were completed and I can understand a responsible FTO wishing to protect the finances of prospective students. Saying that, there must be some people out there, going down the modular route over several months, for whom simultaneous practical and theoretical training would be the most suitable option and for whom spending x months studying then x months flying training would be somewhat impractical.

Does anyone know of anybody who has completed both phases simultaneously and where this was?

Cheers,
