I'm curious as to how one becomes a pilot for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight? Is it a full time posting?

You must either be a steely eye'd killer at a secret airbase in Lincolnshire or a bloody lucky 4-engine airframe driver.

The latter has probably already been a display pilot.

Lancaster pilots started as 1 GSU pilots. Then some bomber types like Ken Sneller (I flew with Ken) then other 4-engine multi like Mike Chatterton until he was in the right place at the wrong time and the staish thought he was too low over the cathederal. Then DT of Vulcan fame.

You could say a C130 tour might be a good route.

Either get a post as Station Commander or OC Ops (is that still the title?) at the home of BBMF or be a bloody good fighter pilot with lots of time left to serve there. Alternatively, be not too far away with proven skills to offer on the multi-engine jobs.

Not a job for anybody on an ego trip or with a nagging wife. Bust an aircraft and you'll be remembered for ever. The motto is 'Lest We Forget' - not 'We'll Remember You'..
