View Full Version : Naming your band..

13th Apr 2006, 12:51
Unashamedly nicked the idea from VFE's thread:ouch: . Quite a few are beginning to come up with their own band name. So, hypothetically speaking, you're part of group of budding musicians, you play all kinds of music (because you're that good), but as yet, you've no band name.
What would you name your band?
"Dog Turd"

13th Apr 2006, 12:56

PS You could be called The Banned (so long as you don't play 'Mod' music  )

Many years ago we had a huuuuuuuge lady work for us. My boss always reckoned that if he had a band he'd name it after her and call it 'Brenda's Gusset' :uhoh:

Aren't you more likely to get more air time, especially on Irish radio stations if you call yourselves Dog The Turd?

13th Apr 2006, 13:53
I always the the F**king Touretts was a good name:}

You could also try SUPPORT, then you would be on everyones posters

I used to be in a band at college. We called ourselves "The Unnamable" based on the short story by Howard Philips Lovecraft.
There was already a band called H.P. Lovecraft and also one called Lovecraft, then we were stumped for a name and of course we decided on "The Unnamable". We played 6 gigs before we split up

I always liked the name 'B*stard'. That was the idea Lemmy had before his manager told him he'd never get on TOTP's with that. So he settled on Motorhead.

Bummer - looks like 'Hiroshima' is kinda out for my new band then. I also play in a blues band called 'The Blues Crusaders', cryptically enough... Playing a gig at Charters, Peterborough at 11pm tomorrow night if anyone lives locally? We ain't too bad yanno! Only band in the area lugging a real Hammond C3 and Leslie speaker cabinet about... you could do worse things on a Good Friday, I mean, look at what Jesus got up to...

2 right.

First Single would be a cover of Jebediah 'Animal'

Make the most of opportunity, nothings free, nothings free
And don't believe everything that you see
It may not be quite what you believed

Oh I know everything that I do tonight
Means nothing if I don't succeed

My highlight desire while ecstasy
Filling me
Let intentions out so openly
It's not crazy, just chemistry

Oh I know everything that I do tonight
Means nothing if I don't succeed
I'm insufferable when I'm in heat
It's my animal, animal.
I'm insufferable when I'm in heat
It's my animal, animal

Animal Instinct

Make the most of opportunity, nothings free, nothings free
And don't believe everything that you see
It may not be quite what you believed

Oh I know everything that I do tonight
Means nothing if I don't succeed
I'm insufferable when I'm in heat
It's my animal, animal.
I'm insufferable when I'm in heat
It's my animal, animal

I was in a band. We were all a bunch of Karaoke singers and drunks, so we called the band "American Lush" (since we figured "Lush" was already taken). Our first album was to be called "Rehab is for Quitters." Never got too far off the ground, though.

13th Apr 2006, 15:21
Am I really related to you?
Only genetically

13th Apr 2006, 15:21
Well, if it was an Australian band, and we played at lots of beach gigs for mainly people who needed lots of suntan lotion, I'd consider calling it Cronulla. The 1st album would be entitled "Oz Oz Oz..." :uhoh: ;)

13th Apr 2006, 15:34
I was going to suggest 'Take That' until I realised it had been used already.

So how about 'Take That Ya Bastard'?

13th Apr 2006, 15:52
Jack Blair and the joggle shackles

Matelots will get that one:ok:

Having seen a fair amount of action in bands I have managed to come across some that have truly awful names and some that have fantastic names....

For example:
Piss In The Sink
My Mum Got Thrush
Janes Tiny Foundry
24 Minutes To My Next Dump
The Cheese Helmets
Lentil Nightmare
Reg Holdsworth Here We Come
Forrest Gump Service Station
Stan's In Jail
Broken Biscuit Band
I'm Never Going To Leeds

Pick which ever of these takes your fancy;)

Pho Phizzle, muh Nizzle!:}

Used that genrator, and put me old band name in the bow, and it came up with some goodies, like "American Lush Gnome." And then it goes completely off track and comes up with "Seeing Desire." What has that to do with American Lush?

Put "pilot" into the band name generator and this is what it came up with!!

Sadly I kinda like it, think I might use it for my new 'pseudo stylistic hardcore funky metal trash' band.....;)

A mate suggested the name 'The Cumsuckers from Cockbreath Land' when we were looking for a band name some years ago.
Didn't go with it (!), but I'd love to see some band use it!

14th Apr 2006, 10:53
I've always liked the named 'System of a Down' - sounds like a Boeing callout :E

PS: I admit to liking their music too. 'Sugar' and 'Question' are good, not to mention 'Violent Pornography'

Only thing i can say in my defence is we had drank a lot when we came up with that.

Even got the T shirt to prove it.

19th Apr 2006, 00:31
I used to be in Liverpool's best unsigned band of the eighties, 'The Pondskaters'.

Listened to John Peel who introduced a band called 'Death by Milkfloat', now that has to be the best name for a band yet!

19th Apr 2006, 07:24
Many of the bands on the John Peel Show had great names. The Dangerous Bicycles and The Crispy Ambulances are two that stick in the memory but there were plenty others. They were all, without exception, shit. Great names, though.

One of me favourites from the past - and in keeping with the ideals of an aviation site was

Plummet Airlines.

As someone said the Peel Show was a haven for the weird and wonderful band names.

Who can ever forget Wayne County and the Electric Chairs and their masterful single F** Off.
