Pakistan International Airline may go for second-hand planes

Pakistan International Airlines would probably go for purchasing second-hand planes under its 'fleet plan policy' presented to Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz here on Tuesday. The plan would be finalised by end of June.

The organisation has earned profit during last six months, after undergoing the restructuring, sources told Business Recorder.

The federal government would now also undertake monthly review of the position of PIA's funds.

There are various options to purchase Boeings and Airbuses. However, both would be second-hand. This option looks better for the new plan, said sources.

The purchase would be transparent so that no problem could arise later on.

The main point conveyed to the administration is that whatever they buy, they should be able to afford it.

PIA has already asked for floating Rs 14.5 billion TFCs under its second phase of restructuring. It has completed its first phase of restructuring by Rs 4.9 billion loan form Pakistani banks.

The meeting was also attended by the Secretary, Defence, and Minister for Privatisation

Why the sad face? Surely it doesn't matter what they buy, as long as they buy SOMETHING!!
