Hello there, can anyone advise me how to resize an image when I post it before the Mods eat me? Am I supposed to adjust something in the post or do I do it in Photobucket?

Cheers

Ginger ;)

There are free programs that will do this for you - it's just that I can't remember the names of any of them!

You could try tucows or download.com, or wait for someone else to come along.

Providing you are running windows XP - try 'powertoys'. (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx) This add-on from Microsoft includes amongst other things a really handy integrated image resizer. I use it all the time.

Irfanview is a wonderful and free program that every photographer should have and yes - everyone else with pictures too. Can't speak highly enough of it. Resizing one or a thousand pictures is an absolute doddle. Go get it! :}

You can do it in Photobucket Ginger There's a toolbox under the images that allows you to resize by 50% or 25%. Just click the appropriate radio button and it does it for you. After resizing there's no need to do anything else - the image in the 'pictures of everyone' topic or whatever is pulled from the Photobucket link, so the topic image changes to match.

"Pixresizer" is a free download - Google it. Works well for just that task.

GM, if you have MS Photo editor (I can't remember if it is a Windows accessory or an Office accessory) you can easily do it - just open the image and choose Image / Resize - I find it simplest to change units to "Pixels" and enter 640 as the width - as long as you don't have Allow Distortion it will automatically enter the other dimension for you.

I know it is fine for BMP and JPG - don't think I've tried it with anything else.

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it. I think I used to have Photo Editor, but it seems to have gone AWOL :confused: . Now all I need is some decent photos to post ;) .

MS Photo Editor is a "Free" accessory in MS Office.

I once typed up a bit of info on how to use MS Photo Editor for some basic tasks, including how to get it installed again. It resides on another forum, but here is the link: http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=47482 (Mine is the third post, but the others might be useful as well).

Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) very simple to use, and you can set it up to batch process your images to a size (pixels or %), batch rename them, etc. Crop, add text, in fact most things you need to do.

And it's free :ok:

I may have missed something here but certainly with XP - just right click the thumbnail, select 'Resize pictures' and choose from 4 options.
