No File, View, Tools etc buttons in Internet Explorer

I have a problem! I seem to have lost the file, edit, view, tools etc buttons that are usually present in internet explorer just above buttons such as home, refresh, back etc in a normal window. I can still click in the general area where the buttons used to be and get the menus up but they are no longer labeled with anything. Any help sorting this would be gratefully received!
