Nick Turvey and Mike van Ginkel and Avex Air, those were the Seventies

Aviation in South Africa turned about these guys, but Nick never really came back from that show in Lanseria.

R.I.P.

Very few of the younger generation will ever understand what Nick and friends did for general aviation in South Africa. Wonderful man and wonderful pilot. Those uf us that still remembers the Lanseria incident will know that Mike was on loan to us for many wonderful years

RIP Mike and condolences to the family

Sorry to hear that too - he was indeed a great guy. I was at Lanseria when he went in and it was just behind where I and my then fiancee (now wife) were standing. We used to be fellow parishoners as well so often saw him at church and he was very stoical about the accident and his subsequent painful recovery.
He was certainly one of SA's Aviation legends.
Condolences to all the family.
