Qantas NZ Directors Charged

By Staff Reporter Peter Fowler at 11:48am, 17th June 2001

Seven past and present directors of the collapsed airline, Qantas New Zealand, have been charged with failing to file company financial accounts.

They are being prosecuted following the collapse of the airline two months ago, which saw one thousand staff lose their jobs and thousands of passengers stranded.

The charges have been laid under the Financial Reporting Act, and each carries a maximum penalty of a one hundred thousand dollar fine.

The manager of the national enforcement unit for the Registrar of Companies, Shane Keohane, said the charges relate to the failure of Tasman Pacific and the company's sole shareholder, Zazu Ltd, to file their June 2000 financial statements on time.

The seven directors charged are scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court next month.
