View Full Version : Tornados in Cape Town (not the windy stuff)

Hi All,
I'm near Cape Town, Hermanus in fact (about 100 miles ESE of CPT)
I saw two Tornados low level about a week ago heading in land
towards the mountains! from the sea! Each were light grey with black nose!
Ive NEVER seen Fins here before, anyone know who's down here?
Are they RAF?
On another note, saw one of Mike Beachyheads Bananas today, what
a sweet sight, first time ive seen a Bucc fly since April 12 1994!
Caught a glimpse of one of his Lightnings and the two Hunters trailing close
behind a few days ago too! A real memory lane trip this one has been!

There is a base about 5-10 miles North of Arniston Bay which the Germans use frequently for trials work. (Can't remember the name!)
No doubt they are there again at the moment.

EX GOOD HOPE 2006 saw 6 Tornados deployed to Overberg (FAOB) using AAR support from Mildenhall-based US KC-135s
The Tornados also conducted some Tornado-to-Cheetah AAR work with 2 Sqn RSAF who were deployed to Overberg.

Check the markings again if you see them. The Marines no longer have the Tonka - pretty sure they were all transferred to the Luftwaffe a short while back (back end of last year, ISTR).

thanks very much for all the excellent info,
seems the Luftwaffe were here as confirmed by some on African Aviation
site! The Tonkas been seen around CPT and over Table Mountain!

been a little busy! Thought would try to get data on Fins and the site
