Swedish CAA new examination system

The Swedish CAA now has started to use a new examination system. Firstly all is computer based, and you get a ”passed” or ”failed” result immediately when you submit the test. Another thing is that the questions is graded from 1-5. The easiest question have grade 1 and the hardest 5. Then to pass the test you have to got 75% of all the POINTS in the test. What do you think about this? Maybe more European CAA´s will start to use this model to?

Its good news for you guys.
They should have it here in the UK, its a joke of system waiting two weeks for your results.
They should take a leaf out of the FAA book.

as usually the nordic countries are way ahead of the rest of the pack - the danish system has for years been that you have your result within 10min of the exam ending, and at the end of the days exam, is objection time and revision of your test to see where you went wrong!

Is this for ATPL tests? Can you do them anytime or is there a set date?

This would be good for JAA ATPL tests, you could have certain nominated test centers throughout the UK set up with pc's, you could then schedule the exam for when you wanted provided thee were spaces left at the centre. A random test would then be generated fro the question bank and a result would be rcorded and available in minutes, it would also cut down in administrative and postal charges for the CAA and as such they could pass the savings back to us poor students.

Yes, this should have interesting repercussions....

It could get ultimately help to get rid of the more archaic methods employed in UK and reduce costs and improve service to the client (pilot).

If it was done on-line maybe one could elect to do it in the UK anyway? Now that would put the cat amongst the pigeons....

That is exactly how it is done in Sweden. It costed me about £100 in total in CAA charges to become a nominated test center as well as a nominated invigilator. It is just paperwork to become a nominated test center while you need to attend the CAA for a one day course to become a nominated invigilator.

Basically, if someone wants to take a CAA test they call me and the test can be made on most internet-connected computers, which must be located in a room suitable for the test (some formal criterias are to be met). I think that the CAA charges something in the region of £10-20 per ATPL test + any fee charged by the test centre/invigilator.

True, but the school that endorses you for the test has to be registered by the Swedish CAA which also means medical in Sweden, CPL training by a Swedish school etc. It could however be interesting for those that already posses a CPL or if it's just IR theory. In that case UK schools might consider to register as an FTO in Sweden and the tests could be made at the school in the UK providing they are registered as an approved test center with an approved invigilator.
