Not sure about the 330 interviews but heard they are going to start interviews for the 747-400 sometime in April.....closer to the end of the month............was trying to find any info from anyone about the interview process in general?

Apply through the agencies who presently have contracted pilots with K.A.L.
Some are: C.C.L.( Cambridge communicatons limited.)
I.A.C.
Rishworth
Euro-Pacific
Best
Some of these have or are currently advertising in Flight International.
Good luck, ZLIN.

I understand they only hire Captains... Will they ever hire international FO's?

Are there somebody able to explain why Kal is so short of Captains both on A330 and B747-400?
Is it perhaps conditions are not so good as expected? And what about crews based in Europe?
Thanks in advance for any information

FreeFlyer59,
If they're so short of A330 drivers, how come no interview for A330 until end of this year or early 2007? At least this is what the agency I'm dealing with is telling me. Short of trainers or else?
I believe they still have the best commuting contract all around, so I"ll wait them out, hoping I'll get the call soon.
Cheers!

Freeflyer59,
Current European bases are:
London, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Zurich, Frankfurt, Prague and Moscow.
In other words, as long as KAL fly to an airport twice a week you can nominate it as your "home base" and receive business class travel to and from for your days off. It does not have to be one served by your specific aircraft type.
ZLIN.

Thanks for info Zlin. You seem to be in the know about the commuting roster. Can you tell me realistically how many days off per month you actually get? Does the company mess with time off, or can you expect to have seven days at home each month? Thanks a lot.

zlin77
8th Apr 2006, 08:26
GreenOnGo,
Current contract gives 9 (nine) days off a month, this does not include travel time. You also accrue annual leave/vacation days at 2 per month, these can be taken as required.
Generally no problems with your requested days off, so you can organize your life at home.
ZLIN.

thank you for informations, but only 7 days off net of travel are really not so good.
So will rosters take place from seoul only? and for example is a euorpean base just for days off?
What about training, operations , kind of rostering etc...?
thanks in advance for any further information

I have been flying for them for the last five years and never had any requests denied by the scheduler. Average 11 days off per month (9 + 2 vacation), and about twice a year I have my days off back to back, which allows me to stay home for about 20 days. Horrible, isn't it?

Sounds pretty good Sam. What fleet are you on and where do you stay while working ie. in Seoul?

I'm on the 744 and we (all foreign guys) stay at the Hyatt Incheon when in Seoul. It is about 5 minutes from ICN airport.

Hello,

Can I applied without Type rating?? I am currently on A306.

Give it a rest remote, it's feckin contract flying for gods sake. What do you expect? Crews know what they get into when signing, the t's and c's are surely plain enough and if you don't like it don't go. Not very difficult surely?

Doesn't sound like the worst deal going, another major asian carrier is just offering 8 days off per month and they cannot be taken as block days....

The KAL deal sounds a lot better then the s**te being offered by the Chinese and Taiwanese carriers....

Remote,

If you don't like it then, You leave it alone. There are plenty people who will take the job.

Regarding Korean beer, perhaps it tastes a bit like sour grapes...

Now seriously, the average is 11 days at home (plus travel) per month. The pay is not bad (around 12K per month on the bigger jets) and the aircraft are mostly new and very well maintained.
That's the way it is, but remember this is a job not some country club.

Cheers.

Diabolo: type rating is definitely required.

Do you pay Korean tax? Is that 11 days plus 2 for travel? Any gratuity?
Thanks Sam.

zlin77

Fly747,
All salaries quoted by agencies are net amounts after South Korean tax is paid.
Some countries have reciprocal tax agreements with South Korea so no extra tax is payable at home.
Travel days in addition to days off are provided at 3 per month so you don't travel in your own time.
Per diems are not extremely high, in Korea 2,350 Won/ Hour (about 2.5 U.S.D), In other countries range from about $2.00-$4.00/Hour.
Sick leave 14 days a year.
Overtime is not generally earned, but averages at $140 U.S.D./ Hour net.
Hope this helps, ZLIN.

Thanks guys, one other question, how many hours a month/year do you fly?
When does overtime kick in? Which is considered the best agency to apply through? That looks like 3 questions!

Samuel Adams
11th Apr 2006, 09:23
Overtime starts at 75 hours, so expect to exceed that on VERY rare occasions. My average has been close to 65 hours plus positioning. As for agencies, everibody here seems to like EuroPacific and Cambridge Communications.
For those that sent me PM's, for some reason I received them but cannot send a reply through PPRuNe, it looks like a server problem of sorts. I can answer your questions through e-mail but I need an address.

Cheers

Is it managment's ploy in an attempt to hire foreign FOs to screw up their union? Hard to take the bait if you are not wanted there in the 1st place and can't being to imagine to fly with the national Captains after the 1st hand horror stories I hear.....:{

:)Is Korean air operating 737's and if they are , are there any foreign crew hired for these aircraft? Would you be able to commute on these aircraft?

Thanks:cool:

Samuel Adams
26th Apr 2006, 03:25
Hello X man

KAL operates a fleet of 737 (-800 and -900). There were some expats flying them but they all transitioned to the 744. The idea is to promote F/O's to the left seat on the 737, so unfortunately there will be no vacancies for foreigners in this type. KAL is hiring right now on the 744, will soon begin hiring on the 777 and there is some talk about the A330 as well.

Cheers

Just wondering if someone could give me an idea of the working enviroment at Korean these days, I know a few years ago (time of the Delta report) things were a bit upside down. Any honest opinions greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

sounds interesting. How do they hire, is it via another company or directly...does anyone know the min. requirements for F/O's and the address to apply?

Many thanks

NYC............From what I have heard, they want to hire F/O's but I don't know if the terms have been established yet. There are quite a few companies that you can go through.........Rishworth, PARC, GAP Aviation & Best.

Hi guys,

I am looking for info about the A330 recruitment in KAL. I am currently rated on A340 with totals >10000. Do they offer CCQs for the A330? And what are the chances of a base in Europe(France) for me?

Thanks to anyone,

Loc

are they still working on a contract for FO's? i keep hearing this is in the works but no one really knows for sure.

most other asian carriers didn't hire FO's before but now they do... maybe KAL will have the demands for foreign FO's the other asian carriers have (Cathey, EVA, Singapore, JAL, etc). They seem to be expanding and needing pilots...
