Since the goverment in Sweden decided to try and get approval for the new environmental tax this route is now in danger of being closed. If the law passes then it's a done deal as I understand it. Seems shortsighted to remove all these jobs surrounding the operation as it basically removes 80% or so of the traffic at Västerås airport.

And when did the government give a flying f**k about that?

It looks like normal Ryanair policy when something comes up so that they can blame someone else. If they're making money on the route today, they will continue with the traffic with the taxes added to the ticket. It is always a nice thing to threaten to close down to get Västerås to fork up money or to lower the fees. It's SOP for RYR, maybe they want Västerås to start paying as much as Nyköping? (if they're not doing that already)
On a side-note I don't like that new tax either, but it's no cause for shutting down a money-making route.

Its not only Ryanair who flies to where their are welcome. Have a look of Zurich today. Maybe 1/3 of the traffic than few years ago. It sure seems to silence the noise when you increase the price.....
