Received a poster this morning with 2 erks filling a sandbag on a big beach, a weird condom shaped logo and the question "Are You Fit For Ops?
Do they expect an answer?
Have they got nothing better to spend our money on?
What is the point?

Ah, that'll be the new improved RAF Fitness Test then. Impartial, job-related assessment designed to allow the Queen to ditch the fat knackers who embarrass our Armed Forces. Five square meals a day and no exercise takes its toll, apparently. We've already started training for it, but haven't got as far as the sand-pit quite yet:=

By the way, told FT is now being toted as a 'Health check', in that if you can't pass it you must be near to death.

Be careful not to confuse the FT with the Operational Fitness Test. IIRC, it was trialled at a secret base in Wiltshire (and one or 2 others), but the full release to the RAF was delayed as the pass rate was fairly poor.

Some years ago, in RAFG, before the BFT was brought in, a new ambitious junior pilot jockstrapper arrived on the squadron. He soon started sniping at some of the more mature "combat eating and drinking ready" SH aircrew.

He took it upon himself to lobby the Boss to make an annual fitness test mandatory. He even went to the trouble of making up a poster, emblazoned with the words (in bold letters): "Are YOU fit to fight?"
He stuck the poster up in the Ops room, making himself Flight Lieutenant Not Very Popular At All.

The following Saturday, he broke his shoulder in a rugger game and ended up in hospital.

Very shortly afterwards, he received a "Get Well Soon" card, signed by all the squadron aircrew.

The card was made from his "Are YOU fit to fight?" poster. :E
