Hi,

I am 15 years old, live close to Gatwick and would like to know if any one here works for Servisair?

If so, is it possible to get work experience with Servisair at Gatwick as ramp agent/passenger services??

PM if necessary.

LGW 15.

Firstly if the mods are nice they will probably repost this in the Despatch and operations forum. I worked for near 10 years as a flight dispatcher. My guess with Servisair in LGW is work experience is possible but it won't be on the ramp. It's possible they could have you looking in and helping at check-in, if not it will be office work doing simple jobs.

The only way you'll find out is by applying. Hope this helps,

S.C. :ok:

LGW 15, yes it is possible to get work experience with Servisair. Give them a call.

I am training with them at the moment and I know there are some people on work experience as PSA.

Good luck!:)

From what I can remember, Servisair usually encourage people to do work experience particularly in months when they need the extra pair of hands, because today's work experience-rs are tomorrow's potential employees. This certainly used to be the mentality of most airlines & aviation companies in general, but whether for security or financial reasons, a lot of companies have pulled back on their student services, usually these are now only reserved for undergraduates at university. I think it's preferred if you're working towards a travel/tourism qualification, but would presume a nice cover letter showing your genuine interest in aviation would be enough to get you considered.

What an intelligent and helpful response to somebody looking at a way to get into our industry.

LGW15 - I don't know which companies take work experience 'pupils' anymore, but would suggest using the contact us bit of the servisair website (and the other companies based at LGW). Perhaps your schools careers adviser has contacts?
As you're 15 airside access may be a problem, but plenty goes on landside!

Whatever the outcome, GOOD LUCK.

As an employee of Servisair, I have to say that we regularly come into flak from other members of the aviation community for appearing as an unprofessional, motley assortment of staff, however I must stress as with anything there are a number of employees at the company who are professional & passionate about their jobs, and the comments made by bigmuk is of huge disrespect to the hardworking staff of the company. I will of course admit that at most bases the company is chronically understaffed, staff work long & difficult weeks and the "management" of the company has a lot to be desired, but it's fair to say this is true of many companies, not just handling agents or companies in the aviation industry.

Servisair is a fantastic starting point for anyone wanting to get into the airline industry, providing you with a well-rounded view of all that goes on at the airport. My understanding is that work experience placements only go to those in their final year of GCSE or those who are taking A-Level/VCE studies, preferably those taking either a qualification in travel/tourism or those who have a sufficient interest in it. Most airports simply will not provide any form of temporary airside passes to those 16 or under, so your age is really the only hurdle I can see LGW15. However, do call Servisair at LGW, and no doubt someone can tell you their specific base policy regarding placements. Good luck!

I would try circusair too as at your age any experience you get will pay dividends in the end. Then you can go and work for a real company :} :)
At 15 you will be looking at basic office duties and not ramp duties but don't be deterred by this. It's a first rung on a sometimes long ladder.
Also keep plugging away if you get negative response and get a list of other companies or airlines at Gatwick. As some have said, make a phone call as this will normally get you an answer straight away.

There are lots of other handling/flight serice agetnts in Gatwick you might like to try. Some include:

Ground Star
Aviance
Swissport
Skychef
Gate Gourmet

You could also try writing into BAA for work experience. The answer would probably be no but it's worth a try.
