View Full Version : Qantas Security how embarrasing.

QF have had three uniformed security officers parked outside my place for the past few days sitting in the back of various vehicles wired up and taking notes of every event that takes place in the street around the clock.
They first became obvious on Thursday evening and by Friday morning curiousity got the better of my fiance who decided to go across and question their purpose. After explaining that she worked for the QF group the answer she recieved was that due to the job losses amongst the engineers they may be expecting 'trouble'.
Apparently there are many QF employees living in our street mostly FA's to my knowledge but probably some engineers. It is now Saturday evening and these guys are still here.
What an embarrasing waste of resources and general mismanagement.
If QF security are so concerned then why not just cancel the suspect's ASIC or have someone follow the suspect.
Starting to feel a bit intimidated:suspect: .........or was it that bad landing last week:ok: .

Call the police, and say you have some suspicious people who appear to be acting in a manor not normal for the area. (They look like they are "casing" the joint)

Remember be Alert, not alarmed.

Also Call the terrorist hotline.

Get the video camera out for when the cops come by. Should by quite amusing. Can you post the video too!

Also get your normal camera out, and get a few photos of them, make sure you use the flash, and use a big camera, and make it really obvious.

Post those pics too for us to see!

Get their faces and number plates too...talk about jumping at shadows...what is Qantas scared of?
Remember the scene from the movie Beverly Hill's Cop...better send 'em out some food and drink. Their allownaces probably don't cover it!!

Better still, call the news media.

If they can make a moderate turbulence encounter into a "Stricken Airliner Death Plunge", the mind boggles with what they can do with a few over zealous Mr. Plods.

Re-Emergance of Fascist Nazi Goon squads in (name your street)"...for starters :E

My God......... Is this really true? What trouble do they expect, and where? In your street?!

Mate - as others have said, get pictures, send them to the media, post them here too (!) and call the cops.

What a disgrace.

Try this one next time they ask to look in your bag as you come in to the jetbase.."Excuse me but what are you looking for?"
If they can't tell you then don't let them look...them's the rules.
The last one said to me "you know the procedure its wwritten down somewhere". "Yes" I said "And you are supposed to tell me what you're looking for before you look in there".
Poor bugger didn't know what to say except "off you go".
Sounds like a good sort of industrial action to me. Every person at every gate makes the security guard tell them exactly what they are looking for whenever they access the secure area.
By the way what suburb were the hired goons watching?

Just woke up and yes they are still there.

Late Friday night my fiance and the lady next door decided to call the police just to make sure nothing else was 'going down'. Again last night we noticed the police make a presence.

I am going to take some photos very soon so stay tuned.

I actually feel very sorry for these guys they are just doing a job. Someone much higher up probably thought up an idea to do this as a scare tactic and has probably forgot to call these guys away until someone in management remembers on Monday morning.

Does anyone else have people camped outside their house? What could this possibly achieve? Surely this must contravene some industrial relations law? (if there are any left) This is one of the most bizarre things I have ever read on prune and if it turns out to be true (and I have no reason to doubt it) what happens next?

These clowns have no authority or right to conduct surveillance anywhere except on QF property.
This is tantamount to harrassment.
We are allowing behaviour that was condutcted in pre war Germany.
Unacceptable then and most certainly unacceptable now.
Inform the Federal police, your local member of parliament and the media(forget about channel 9).
A childhood prank..force a couple of spuds up the exhuast pipe of their vehicle. The results are hilarious.

What about a Banana in the Exhaust Pipe!!!:}

Have the Police checked these Clowns credentials? i think they would be required to Hold a Private Inquiry Agents Licence to conduct this type of activity!!

Class A B C Type security Lic does not allow this type of work that they are performing!!:*

the other thing you could do is to talk to some laywers take in the evidence as proof and take QF to court sue them for harassment i'm sure they wold want to settle out of court.

QF preaches the they do not tolerent harressment take them up on it.

if the cops have questioned these guys then there are police records about this and with the phone call to the cops there is another record to prove the time span.

research the ppm on there rights of these guys also have them on invasion of privacy.

like the rest have said take photos, have a JP there with you when you take the PIcs so there is proof of when the photos were taken but DO NOT use a digital camera these are not able to be put into evidence in court as these can be tampered on computer.

if the worst comes to worst then you can get some money from Darth Dixson. the best it goes to the media and the company is exposed for what it does and give the unions more ammio for the just cause of IR reforms

Not too worried about harrasment and intimidation, I know I haven't done anything wrong, simple. Actually I feel a bit safer with someone keeping an eye on the place compliments of QF.

Talk about Stockholm Syndrome I have even considered taking a drink out to the poor bloke and some old Ralph and FHM's. If I do weaken Elroy I will ask about your nail clippers but my guess is they are probably on Ebay.

My guess is someone has made a threat or has been threatened and this is the result. Either way, I don't see what this is achieving other than a very short term measure.

Just don't take him out any Oreos with the drink, Hoss, he might start interrogating you about where you got them from!

Seriously, if anyone has been threatened or made a threat, then either way a stake-out is a job for the POLICE, not QF Security............. Good grief....

12th Mar 2006, 21:25
It is quite simple. Get the media involved, but do not use Channel 9. Try Channel 7. There is interest in this sort of intimidation. The company is starting to be on the nose in many segments of the community. I would also call the police. PM me if you want more information on what to possibly do.

Do not be intimidated:E

I note Hoss you mention there may be some mention of a threat. The law allows private agents no latitude in this regard. It is very clear, they are exceeding their authority. Very particular provision apply to the conducting of surveillance. The private agents act will stipulate all requirements.Am a long time out of it, so memory no longer serves... QF security are not licensed private agents. Their jurisdiction extends to the physical limit of property owned by Qantas. The legitimate authority is the police. The police will move them on.

Is this head of security at the big Q an ex Victorian walloper who failed to rise to any great heights in that job? The story I heard was that he was lucky enough to know Jimmy Bowtie at the time.

Must watch too much CSI Miami.

hoss
13th Mar 2006, 06:02
The latest information is that at approximately 16:00 today the car disappeared. I have photographs with enough detail but am holding back from making it public for now.

I now think that they were instructed to make a presence possibly due to an employee being threatened (engineering manager). However I would question the effectiveness of such a measure.

Makes you wonder how much is spent on this type of security each year. Dixon would probably need constant surveillance in this industrial climate.

I was reminded the other day of a story going round a few years back of Jimmy Bowtie copping a few hits down Cronulla Mall, anyone know anything about that?

there is a very good chance they will be back with another car.
on the compo case i mentioned above, he was under survailence for approx 9 months, almost every day they were outside his house, and the vehicles would change regularly. but fortunatly for him he had a legitimate case, and they couldnt get any dirt on him. but it still took QF 5 yrs to settle the case

From the ABC website

Qantas chief executive Geoff Dixon has thrown his support behind the Federal Government's proposed changes to Australia's industrial relations system.

The airline is holding its annual general meeting in Canberra, where executives have highlighted the increasing pressure placed on the company by soaring fuel prices.

Mr Dixon told shareholders the industrial relations changes were crucial to the company's survival in the international marketplace.

"They will give established successful companies like Qantas greater flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions," he said.

"Because if they do not, or if we do not, be sure that others will come in and use green fields costs or foreign structural advantages to devastating effect."

Fuel costs to double

The chairwoman of Qantas, Margaret Jackson, has estimated the airline's fuel costs will almost double over the next financial year.

Qantas has been benefiting from cheaper pre-purchased fuel through a strategy called fuel hedging.

Along with fuel levies since May last year, it has formed a partial buffer against surging oil costs.

But that buffer is set to end.

Mrs Jackson told the AGM record prices mean that fuel costs could rise from 19 per cent to 30 per cent of total operating costs.

And the airline has made a bid to the Government to help out with security.

"Qantas security costs were $260 million," she said.

"This was a huge increase - more than 400 per cent over our costs in 2001."

Mr Dixon has confirmed that joint ventures and housing staff overseas will continue to be part of the profit strategy.

Yes, it is being spent so wisely, of course the mug tax payers should foot the bill!!! :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:

When reading an annual result, what area would the expenditure for these "goons for hire" be recorded under? Might be worth the ATO investigating what QF is claiming a deduction for? I'm sure this wouldn't be deductable??? :hmm:

They have left, the three different security officers all had different vehicles and worked 8 hour shifts most likely in there own personal cars.

That is why I have not made public the photographs.

So I guess all is clear if a death threat had been made:rolleyes: .

Ironically, the security officers were from a contract company and if memory serves me correctly(i'm on holidays) they are the same as the ones at the 'screening points'. The guy working night shift seemed very articulate and was taking notes wondering around etc.(he was of most concern). While the day shifts had a more relaxed and casual approach.

If they reappear, call the police and advise that some students dressed up as security guards are in your street as a prank. Then, walk over to the security guards and advise them that some students dressed up as police are on their way to confront them. Sit back and enjoy the show!
