I hope not too. I used to be a big airbus fan but BA's Airbus are pants narrow isles, and charter seat pitch.

Long live to BA 757.

However if Big Willie follows his EI routes, bring on the A330 and more 321's

Thought i read somewhere recently that BA had ordered or ammended an order for A320 & A321s, if that is so it could mean an end to their 757s.

...as replacements for G-BUSB-K (originally delivered 1988-91) ?

I'd prefer to see those 757s (preferably with APB winglets) go on 767 SH routes and more 767s go LH - the small size of the fleet might prevent that though. Would need more 321s to replace them obviously.

However, the most rational destination for the 767s, expanding MAN (bmi have shown TA does work from MAN if you do it right - but they aren't doing it right anymore) won't happen with the LHR-centric BA mentality.

Had a weekly brief the other week, and for certain I can remember my local manager quoting WW as saying "The 757 fleet will be gone within the next eight months", obviously this is me passing on what I heard, and can't exactly confirm if this is what WW really said, but I do know that everything I have been told by this person normally bears fruit, give or take a bit of time!!

It is a pity that WW does not get rid of the rubbish 737's flying out of LGW, at least the 757s are tidy inside. I would question this comment as we start the Iceland service this month and that can only be operated effectively by use of a 57.

HZ123, the Iceland flights are scheduled to be flown by 737-436 as shown on BA.COM flight numbers BA2790/BA2791 and the leases on many of our 737s have been extended past the initial end of lease dates by 2 to 4 years! Have no more details at present on the fate of the 57 fleet, although we would have to start end of lease checks fairly soon for the remaining 57's to be all disposed of by WW's timescale!

Well it may say that but we at Training were told it would be a 757 from LHR? It is not unusual for BA not to infoem its staff?

The last of the B757 fleet are the E4 engine models the 5C's all having gone to DHL. DHL had options on the E4's but never persued them and that's going back to 2000.

It looks like I will need to get as much BA 757 footage this year as I can !

Stand corrected it is indeed a 737, this journey should just about finish them off?

Just off the top of my head they also do Catania, Tirana, and Pristina which are about 3:15 long too. The new Izmir is 4 hours long as well, all done with 737s as with KEF.

IIRC, BA 737's used to do LGW-TLV, which is a good bit longer than those mentioned in this thread.

What is Jerusalems airport? Last time I was there TLV was only an hour down the hill.

I thought one of the reasons for going the 320 family in the original big order was to eventually replace the 757s with 321s?

BA did operate 737's from TLV to LGW from 1993 to 1996. It is a sector of about 6 hours and could only be opertaed using one of 2 high gross weight aircraft that had been acquired by Dan-Air. Prior to the takeover Dan-Air operated that sector every week in a 164 seat configuration. That was quite a challenge for a 737. But they operated NCL-TFS as well in a 170 seat config not using a high gross weight machine.

BA currently have 13 757's based at LHR. 7 of them are less than 10 years old. Other than for fleet commonality/flexibility reasons there cannot be a compelling reason for getting rid of such aircraft. In any event the Airbus order book would make it imposssible to replace them with A321's inside at least 3 years. So even if there was an immediate decision no imminent action is possible.

It is worth noting that their recent adjustments to their order with Airbus mostly cover planned 2008 deliveries.

Well they have had a terrible life then judging by the interiors, most of the seats are in poor condition.
