Our Empire needs a new airframe to... which of the above works best, and is there a rotary equivalent?

No need for a rotary version - the X Wing can take off vertically anyway:ok:

Until get us some decent R2-D2's I think our XWing programme is pretty much null and void.

Quite agree. I've been saying that my R2 unit has a bad motivator for ages but no body listens...
