Have either seen a picture somewhere, or someone has told me that some SIA 777s have specifically chosen to depart on 6R when MAN has easterlies, whereas other departinf traffic is using 6L as normal.

Is this true?

And if so, is there a reason for this?

No need to sound so outraged! There will be a reason. Not really very familiar with MAN since the new runway came along, but 24R has a steep upslope for a short distance to a peak at the touchdown point, then a long steepening downslope. I don't think I remember a runway anywhere with such a short horizon from the flight deck of a 737 at the threshold! Taking off on 06L must be quite steep upwards. A look at the SIA website shows MAN-SIN is a long one. So, really heavy, taking off uphill.......I guess 06R is a better option?

Also the "Performance" figures..."Rate of climb gradient" after TO come into account. Generally, the "rotate" distance is [about] the same as 24L
