Mentoring Session: an hour of industry big-wigs providing excellent
expert comments on how to become a professional pilot (as distinct from
just possessing a Commercial Certificate). Basic message: hang in
there, be prepared to serve your apprenticship instructing, & keep
applying! The more ratings you can accumulate along the way the more
employable you'll be--you may not USE an instrument-helicopter rating,
but GETTING ONE shows that you're serious about the profession. (Boy
Scouts all over again: the more merit badges, the better.)

Looked like there were maybe 80 folks there, half of those (surprise)
looked to be over 35 yrs old.

Open Recruiting ballroom (2.5 hrs): average size of milling-around
crowd 80-100 bodies. Booths: lots of companies (20?) looking for
mechanics, only 8-10 looking for (mostly turbine) pilots. Temsco &
Papillon have already hired their first groups of (8? 10?) flight-
seeing 206/AS350 pilots for this summer, perhaps another group each in
March. Long (5-6 pilots?) lines of candidates in front of the oil-rig
companies! The bulletin board held another 5 or 6 pilot job openings--
ranging from 400 hrs experience to 3000 turbine (EMS).
