i am trying to create a simple log book to calculate my monthly and total time but i am having problems. For some reason the totals are complete garbage for each month and i just add them up normally, can anyone help? i have done many searchs' and have downloaded some templates but nothing is what i really want.

Are you entering actual times (eg: 1:20) or the decimal (eg: 1.33)?

actual times, as i understand excel as soon as it gets to 24 hours total it then decimalises. This is where it seems to go wrong, for instance i have a long list of flight times which add up in excess of 24 hours per month and i get a total at the end which is not correct.

Have a look in http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=158700

for some tips on working with times in Excel (the thread is about rounding them, but there might be something in there for you).

Just decimalize the times on entry and format the column appropriately. All will add up correctly.

I used to have the same problem, but in the more recent versions of Excel under format cells option there is a time option of either 30:55.2 or 37:30:55, both of these get around the resetting the number when you go past 24 hours.

You need to format the cells with a custom format [hh]:mm The hours and minutes addition if greater than 24 will then be correct.
