Great pics Lexx! :ok:

Gary Larson would have had a field day! There's a particular cartoon of his which is entirely appropriate, but, for copyright reasons, scanning & posting is probably not an option :(

Probably their equivalent of tinned meat.

I can see the scene a thousand years from now...the aged polar bear says to the ones assembled around him...

"behold for the oceans and the ice were made by the great black creature Honolulu, with bore the sacred symbols 1, 2, 3 and 4 etc"

meanwhile in the polar bear newspaper, the headline "I was abducted by aliens, they had no fur and used an anal probe on me. I was held in a strange cage like structure with more aliens looking at me. The fish was quite good though"

And they shall keep these tales in a special book. It will be taught in Polar Bear School and there shall be a special holiday every year. One day per week will be set aside for rest and the teachings of Honolulu. Then the disbelievers will say it was not Honolulu but HMS Intrepid that made the ice. These factions shall fight wars and attack each others ice cities. They shall be called civilised.:E

Wow, cute polar bears.

P.S. Did they mistake the sub for a giant seal?

Well the bear in the last picture didn't look to me as if it was wanting to make friends. It looked to me like it was trying to figure out how to eat this big black monster.:ooh:

There has to be a joke here about cylindrical objects and seamen........but I can't think of one at the moment.

I'm sure there are cross-hairs on that last picture...I guess when you are in need of target practice anything will do (where is a greenpeace activist in a rubber dinghy when you need one?)

"Hey buddy, that aint no Fox's Glacier Mint you're stood on..." Kablooey!! <background giggles in the mess>

I wonder if the last one is thinking to himself "bu99er, never got a can-opener when you need one".

DYK, the only parts of a Polar Bear that are not whiteish are its nose and eyes. When one goes hunting, it hides its facial features behind its hand, sneaks up on lunch, then whips its hand away and shouts BOO!

Looks like an Ohio class to me. Los Angeles don't have fins on the conning tower.

(civvy spotter hat off again)

Cool bears, though. But I suppose polar bears would be cool...

It's an LA-Class..... See pic (http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ships/submarines/losangeles/la-sing.jpg)

Maybe the conning tower fins fold??

Otherwise there seems to be 2 versions (http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/la/)

If these were all taken around the same time, whomever took the third picture was either very brave, very stupid, or they hadn't seen the polar bears at that time...

Don't know if polar bear urinating habits are similar to dawgs but I'd say the last one is mama bear relieving herself.

I stand corrected. Maybe the earlier ones didn't have fins, or vice versa?

I still thinks the bears are socially popular.

Moments before impact of the laser-guided bomb...

http://www.coasttocoastam.com/timages/page/sub_arctic3.jpg

Weapons officer aboard LA class SSN: "Target is lit, go for it!"

F-117: "Bomb away!"

F-117: "It's a hit, do you copy SSN?!"

F-117: "Ummmm, SSN...?!" :{

Well, Mydata beat me to it about the third photo, but I was thinking more along the lines that the photographer had asked the polar bear, "Would you mind taking a picture of me in my sub? You just press this little button here..." :uhoh:

Oh dear dear, dear... I thought it was a Lafayette or Ethan Allen, due to the sonar fin...

Yes, some of the fins fold so that it can force its' way up through the ice

Although there is no bigger animal lover than me (though not in the biblical sense) I don't think I can eat a whole Polar Bear. Could I just serve my pennance by eating a Foxes Glacier mint perhaps?

ps It must be damned cold - Look at the last pic from Airship... PB having a quiet pee and frozen instantly. God knows what he must have been drinking last night though...

Actually, the bears were waiting for the SEALs to pop up. If it had been a Royal Navy sub, they wouldn't have bothered... ;)
