Hi Everybody in sunny SA!
I am looking for an old friend, "Vlooi" van Rooyen (real first name Thomas).
He helped me get my first multi-job all those years ago flying for Alan R. (Bevrick Air in Welkom), then he moved on to a B200 for De Beers in Kimberely, after that he made captain on DC-9s for Sun Air at age 27/28. I trekked North seven years ago and have not been able to contact him. Still owe him a bakkievol beers for helping me on my way! Does anyone out there know him, or know how I could contact him?? Any help would be much appreciated! Happy Landings...

Hi there.

We have a Captain here at Nationwide Airlines by the name of Tom Van Rooyen. Can this be your friend?, because I have a hunch he worked for Sun Air, but not totally sure. I stay at an outstation, so he doesn't always come by this way.

Cheers for now :D

Mechanical,
that could be, how many Tom van Rooyens could there be? I don't know where he went when Sun Air folded, definately possible that he went to Nationwide. Thanks!! Anybody else out there who knows Thomas, maybe flies with him? I guess he would be around 36/37 years old now. Thanks in advance!

Saw Tom at the beginning of last year in Entebbe, he was flying for Safair at the time, I believe he went to CE shortly after that so it must be the same guy.

CE = Nationwide. If you scout around in here Nationwide (http://www.flynationwide.co.za/) you'll find a contact address. Probably best to write c/o Human Remains department.

CE stands for the original name of the company Nationwide's boss bought to get an air carrier licence - Care Air or something it was. Will see if I have a number for Tom. They put him on a fluffy now cause they needed captains there - he would rather be on the old orgasmotron if he has his way though - great guy.

Yes, I know Thomas really well. He helped me with my C210 (Beverick Air) in Kimberley. I'm now flying in Namibia thanks to him! He is flying now flying PC12 for AMS and is stationed in Kimberley. He is as happy now as ... a pilot in a bar! Send him regards from the SA pilot working in Swakopmund!
