The Real Slim Shady

I'm about to make a selection of ISP from the many available. However, several offer either cable TV as well and / or disounted or cheap telephone calls.
With the advent of VOIP the telephone calls don't seem to hold that much of a benefit as I would still have to pay the BT line rental but I would be grateful for your advic and experiences on the advantages or otherwise of slinging my hard earned at at cable TV / ISP provider.
Would it be better to separate the services or take a package?
I'm looking at minimum 2mb broadband.
