I don't see why not. Aer Lingus brought one into Leeds a few years back to advertise links with the US as a marketing stunt. They took a group of travel agents for a trip around the uk.

Well I dont think its going to be an official pax flight, just some one off thing of some kind I imagine...

Is that around the time of the Cheltenham Gold Cup? Any additional flights usually use Birmingham with the smaller GA using Staverton but I can't see why Lulsgate can't be used.

I did here a few months ago a EI A330 to use BRS round Feb/March time for the cheltham cup, a EI A330 did operate into the airport a few months ago anyway. It parked on stands 8.9.10,11 and 12 when it came in last.

A few months ago 'a bristolian' (whose information on happenings at BRS can be relied upon) said on this MB that EI 330s would visit BRS in February in connection with a rugby match.

The 24 Feb is a Friday and the 27 Feb a Monday whereas the Cheltenham Gold Cup, as far as I'm aware, takes place in March in midweek.

Is Ireland playing Wales on the weekend 24-27 Feb?

A look on the BRS apron website on Monday week for "next week's" Mayfly should reveal all, if there is anything to be revealed of course.

As for the Cheltenham meeting, BRS has been used regularly in the past for special pax flights from Ireland. I believe the Bristol area hotels do good business with Irish race-goers. The four-legged performers are also no strangers to the Lulsgate apron.

The Six Nations Ireland v Wales match is on Sunday 26th February in Dublin. So these flights will be carting the Welsh fans over.

You guys should really try using this interweb thingy. Its kewl!:ok:

If you search for flights on the EI website and bring up the flight details for the EI2289/EI2288 it shows they are being operated by an A330-200.

Theres been bits and bobs on the BRS thread about the 330 coming in for rugby flights, but is there any reason this couldnt operate out of CWL?
Dont get me wrong it will be nice to see a different jet in BRS even if its just the once, but why not just operate it in to CWL? Is it because they already use BRS and therefore may save on costs?

No idea but it looks pretty definite, its bookable on the EIN website and shows a/c type.

:bored: Lots of rumours, here are the facts. The Aer Lingus A330 is sched. to carry Welsh rugby fans for the Ireland-Wales six-nations match on the weekend of 24th-27th February. There's also other additional Lingus flights over the same weekend as well as extra Ryanair flights. It'll be a busy few days. Shame that Wales lost to England really, there'll be no grand slam finale this season!

Really? Better not tell that to Andy Robinson and his boys.

I also echo WATABENCH's question: why operate the EI flights (and the extra FR flights) into BRS? Not that I'm complaining, just interested.

I know CWL gets busy with rugby charters at these times but that busy?

Logistically with EI currently having scheduled services into BRS it is perhaps easier to organise, and maybe cheaper also!
