French ATC strike tommorow!!

French ATC strike starting tommorow till fri morning. does anyone have any info and how this is going to affect flts...?

Big impact. Easy have cancelled a lot of flights to France and Switzerland. FlyBe anticipating the same. Bang goes my ski-trip, along with deposits, leave days, etc. Not a tragedy, obviously but pretty annoying.

Notice that FR and FlyBe have only indicated that there may be only delays - no cancellations as yet. Seems strange that EZY have cancelled so early while FR and FlyBe haven't as yet.:confused:

ok. so this is a major problem. i'm scheduled to operate there tommorow! my company hasn't said anything to me. so if we continue there will i get any ATC? airports opend/closed? help! :ugh:

At present, British Airways are planning to operate their services as scheduled.

Again they cause widespresd disruption and costs to the public. A boycott of French resorts would fix this.

Ignore the strike, announce your intentions if overflying and transit their airspace, What thay going to do? Shoot down a bunch of tourists/businesspeople?

How are single skies going to operate with actions like this from the French a constant threat?

I'm not French bashing, I'm strike bashing. They have over-riding obligation to their customers for service and safety.

I agree that the French strike habit is a confounded nuisance. All the same, I have to admit a sneaking regard for the militancy of the French citizenry as a whole. The occasional rampages remind the politicos of the power of the people. I can't help feeling that such activities might have a salutary effect on the despotic governments we tend to have in the UK. Not much chance of that, though - it's not in the national character!

I recall a senior Eurocontrol official telling me - 'one country is the single largest obstacle to an efficient European ATC system. I won't name it but it has six sides and two coastlines'

I put the word out to my work colleagues about this late yesterday afternoon. With beautiful irony (appreciated by him) the only one caught out is our French manufacturing director now stuck in UK. :E

From what i saw yesterday, FR seemed to run a good operation into France, BE ran all their services with exception of CMF which I understand was a combination of not Met avail (meteo on strike?!) and the diverts all marginal, whilst as previously noted EZ seemed to panic a touch. It all seemed a fairly inocuous day ATC wise compared to the concern that was voiced a couple of days ago.... Staffing obviously wasn't nearly the problem that was anticipated.

Recall a rather comical after-dinner talk by a retired Pilot/ATC fella some years ago that parodied French ATC strikes, damned good too! Now where did I put that old cassette tape?
