From the Cyprus Mail of 28 January:

Ryanair eyes budget flights from Italy and Germany

IRISH low-cost carrier Ryanair has set its sights on daily flights from Italy and Germany to Cyprus, possibly as early as October, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CT) has revealed.

According to CTO chairman Photis Photiou, the company is in the first stages of implementing flights from Italy and the second stage in relation to Germany.
The airline informed the CTO of its plans during a trip Photiou made to Dublin earlier in the week. Photiou said, however, there would be nothing concrete before October this year.

He said the operation of Ryanair to Cyprus would be a huge boost for tourism, particularly from Germany, which is a strong market for Cyprus, the second largest after the UK. Italy is also a growing market, with 20,000 Italians visiting Cyprus each year, and the additional Ryanair flights could bring that number up to 50,000, Photiou said, adding that this would be aided by the fact Ryanair was a low-cost carrier.

More discussions between the Irish company and the CTO are expected in the coming weeks.

Ryanair, which operates around 100 Boeings, started up in 1985 and expects by the end of this year to carry 35 million passengers in 21 European countries to 288 destinations

It has permanent bases in 12 European cities, including Brussels, Milan and Glasgow, and employs nearly 3,000 people from 25 countries.
