For those who have been to the second interview, or who know:
During the sim session is the interviewee expected to sit in the LEFT or RIGHT seat? Is it optional? Just want to know this for sure before doing sim prep, so that I do it from the correct seat.
One more thing, what does CCQ stand for? (I think it's related to being qualified in both A330/340 but don't understand the acronym).
Thanks.

1. Its optional, you can sit in whichever seat you wish.

2. Cross Crew Qualification (if you google "Airbus CCQ" you'll get a few hits and a brief explaination)

Also, another related question for those who know:
- Does the sim ride take place with full visuals, full motion? (I hope so, that sounds like great fun).

An unrelated question to this thread:
- How does one differentiate between the A343 and the A346 (other than the latter being about 11m longer)?

Thanks again guys.

the A340-300 has one less window along the tube than the -600. 4 vs. 5.

iflyplanes,
that's exactly what i was looking for, a description that would allow me to distinguish the two a/c from the outside, thanks a lot!

Stupid one but really obvious.................how about..........the engines?:ok:

the engines on the A340-600 are RR Trent 556 while the 300's are CFM56-5c4s with 56,000 and 34,000 lbs respectively. The A340-600 has a double bogie center landing gear. There is also something regarding the fuel slaving mechanism. I think the 340-300 has one main fuel computer and the second is slaved to the first, while the 600 has two fuel computers. I have been told the 300 system is superior, but do not know from experience. I also believe the 300 has CRT displays and the 600 has LCD but that also should be verified by someone with a better knowledge of the aircraft. Hope that helps for some differences inside and out.

The length, and the engines are the major give away from the outside (IFP: I cant believe youve counted the windows....or is that a wind up?)
On the ground the double vs single boogie centre gear is a give away. The -300 is only single boogie. See pic:http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0998188&WxsIERv=Nveohf%20N340-313K&Wm=0&WdsYXMg=Pngunl%20Cnpvsvp%20Nvejnlf&QtODMg=Nzfgreqnz%20-%20Fpuvcuby%20%28NZF%20%2F%20RUNZ%29&ERDLTkt=Argureynaqf&ktODMp=Wnahnel%2014%2C%202006&BP=1&WNEb25u=Rejva&xsIERvdWdsY=O-UKX&MgTUQtODMgKE=Cvpgherf%20bs%20ynaqvat%20trnef%20ner%20cbchyne .%20Guvf%20vf%20gur%20Nveohf%20irefvba%20whfg%20bss%20gur%20 tebhaq%20jvgu%20jurryf%20fgvyy%20ebgngvat%20irel%20snfg.&YXMgTUQtODMgKERD=1165&NEb25uZWxs=2006-02-04%2011%3A16%3A49&ODJ9dvCE=&O89Dcjdg=228&static=yes&width=1024&height=695&sok=JURER%20%20%28nvepensg_trarevp%20YVXR%20%27Nveohf%20N340 %25%27%29%20%20beqre%20ol%20cubgb_vq%20QRFP&photo_nr=24&prev_id=0998196&next_id=0998161&size=L
There are also the cameras for the TACS (Taxi Aid Camera System) and the associated lights (if you see it at night) See pic: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0692119&WxsIERv=Nveohf%20N340-642&Wm=0&WdsYXMg=Pngunl%20Cnpvsvp%20Nvejnlf&QtODMg=Flqarl%20-%20Xvatfsbeq%20Fzvgu%20Vagreangvbany%20%28Znfpbg%29%20%28FLQ %20%2F%20LFFL%29&ERDLTkt=Nhfgenyvn%20-%20Arj%20Fbhgu%20Jnyrf&ktODMp=Whar%2016%2C%202004&BP=0&WNEb25u=Crgre%20Hazhgu-INC&xsIERvdWdsY=O-UDO&MgTUQtODMgKE=Gjb%20guvatf%3A%201.%29%20Guvf%20gnvy%20nyernql %20arrqf%20fbzr%20cnvag%202.%29%20Naq%20gur%20pnzren%20ba%20 gur%20gnvy%20sva%20juvpu%20cebivqrf%20avpr%20cvpgher%20sbe%2 0gur%20VSR%20naq%20sbe%20gur%20cvybgf%20va%20beqre%20gb%20zn abhire%20gurve%20nvepensg%20fnsryl.&YXMgTUQtODMgKERD=2296&NEb25uZWxs=2004-10-15&ODJ9dvCE=&O89Dcjdg=453&static=yes&width=683&height=1036&sok=JURER%20%20%28nvepensg_trarevp%20%3D%20%27Nveohf%20N340-600%27%29%20%20beqre%20ol%20cubgb_vq%20QRFP&photo_nr=29&prev_id=0695598&next_id=0684878&tbl=TAIL&size=L

* I do know that if you walk from the cockpit to the aft galley (return) 13 times, thats a kilometer (yes, I was bored)

The -600s (and the new A330 enhanced) have LCD screens. The others have CRTs.

Both types have 2 FCMCs (Fuel Control and Management Computers). There are still some teething probs with the FCMCs on the -600. Airbus is looking into it. They are definitely not as reliable nor as accurate as those on the -300.

On the inside the systems are markedly different. Not enough pages to go into here.

CS: The Classic sim is full motion but only night/dusk visuals. The 744 sim has full day visuals (not that any of that matters because your simride is IMC)

Hey,

Yeah actually the window thing was serious, that was the first thing that jumped out an grabbed me. I didnt know about the tandem and single bogey so that is another good one, however all my pictures are side on so i couldnt see it! The engines is an interesting one but they are not absolute, ie they could look longer in one phtoto than another. Whereas windows are something that can be counted and not looked at and guess-timated.

Edit: Though searching Airliners.net the engines are quite different!!

Though i will go back and have another look at the engines and see what i find. ll in all it is all good ID features for that question "What plane is this?"

Cheers,

IFP.

Iflyplanes...when I read your reply that there is "one window less" I cracked up. That is a good one. I don't think the rest of the crowd got it though.
