Does anyone know how easyJet are getting on with their increased hand baggage weight allowances?

Each passenger is usually permitted one standard piece of hand baggage to a maximum size limit of 55x40x20cm. There is no weight restriction, within reasonable limits - i.e. a passenger must be able to place the piece of luggage safely in the overhead storage bins without assistance.

Has it affected on time performance?
Has it had any safety implications?
Do the gate / cabin staff face any additional issues?

At certain times of the year, it is a big issue. Christmas is a nightmare on certain flights. It carries on throughout the winter season. Not only do people have trolley bags, they also have additional bags and huge coats that all need to be stowed. I often find huge bags stuffed down by peoples legs, bags that are obviously larger than the allowed dimensions. I have had to remove up to ten bags on one flight and have them put into the hold, not because they are too big, but simply because if all 149 passengers bring on a trolley bag each, somewhere along the line, the lockers will not take any more.
