Has the Ag industry in Aus been on a slow downhill slide?

With higher fuel prices, drier years and the coming of pest resistant crops effected the need for aerial spraying?

Is there the follow on crop of pilots coming through, to replace the extremly experienced people, that are ready for a deserved rest? What is happening on a whole??

It's busy enough that is has taken this long to reply to your post:ok:

Downhill? Smaller maybe.

Pest resistant crops have proven to be not particularly resistant this season.

Drought will always be a killer.

There is a surprising demand for training, given the industry is supposed to be in decline. Not all of those trained will prove suitable.

Three recent hull losses, all mid to large turbines, on night work may prove a challenge for some regarding insurance issues.

Hope this helps.

It is good that the interest from younger pilots to get into the ag industry is still strong and is a viable alternative for those that may have no inclination to go airline bound. That is if insurance companies don't price out younger pilots!!

Hopefully there are a few energetic souls out there that will still stand to make the industry as strong and safe as it has proven to be in the past. Seeing that ag in aus has pioneered so many of the practices that the international scene nowdays takes for granted.
