VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Investigators probed the cause on Sunday of a commuter plane crash on Canada's Pacific coast that killed three people, including a child, and injured five others.
The Sonic Blue Airways flight from Tofino, British Columbia to Vancouver hit a mountainside on Saturday while trying to reach the airport at Port Alberni on Vancouver Island after reporting engine trouble, police said.
The crash site was in such rugged wilderness that rescuers used parachutes to reach it and the injured had to be airlifted out by helicopter. Transportation Safety Board investigators were at the crash scene.
The dead included a three-year-old boy and a 13-month-old girl was among the injured, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
A small dog was also in the single-engine aircraft and was rescued unharmed, police said.
