Hi there, I'm new to this forum but it seams pretty extensive.

I'm currently studying my ME/IFR and will have completed my atpl and JAR CPL by summer. I'm planing on going to germany to take an A320 Type-Rating course and then start looking for a job. Is this a good way to go about it or have you guys some other recommendations on where and how I should spend my money? =)

Best Regards
Tim

A type rating is virtually useless without time on type, especially as many airlines will require you to take another type rating upon offer of employment to their operating methodologies. You would be better advised only to take an offer of a type-rating with an offer of employment afterwards, or at least with an offer of line experience afterwards, otherwise you would be better placed spending it all at a casino.

Id suggest a better course of action would be first to understand what a potential employer wants from a new recruit. At the end of your 320 course who is going to employ you? Do you any idea of airlines taking freshly 320 qualified pilots? Do you have a plan? Do you see my point?

Buying a Type rating speculatively is a gamble, why not stack the odds in your favour a little, and do the research?

Just trying to help here a little

I do have a plan =) Thanx though for your insight... I'm contacting different airlines already trying to find out what kind of need they have and if they would perhaps take me under their wing and help me out with for example linetraining so that I'll get a no of hours on my type... But is it better to perhaps start on a smaller plane first?

Tim,

The post below yours, is from a guy who's got an a320 type rating and cant get a job!!!! DONT PAY FOR A TYPE RATING. It will do you no favours. Apply to airlines that will pay half(bond) you. Flybe, Tfly, Eastern, Ba Citiexpress etc. Go for Ryanair but CAUTION. Try CTC for their aqc scheme, a really god scheme.

If you have no luck after all those airlines maybe try the instructing route. I did and it worked for me.

If you buy a rating your making yourself unemployable to alot of airlines. For example if you apply to a turbo prop outfit with an a320 rating, why will the give you a job. They know as soon as Mon, Ba come knocking you'll be off!!

Save yourself a s%@t load of money and try and get a job w/o having to buy a rating. It does happen!

All the best and good luck,

Ali1
