The build up was huge, (so was the model) throttled up, started the take off role, veered left and slammed into an avertising board!

Did feel somewhat sorry for the driver but it couldn't handle the 5kts or so across the runway. I'm quiet sure if it had got airbourne the display would have been quit good.

Let's hope the real flying pig handles a little better.

Some stunning flying from the Aero's pilots, did anyone watch it?

F16 crashes during air show practice
By Aftab Kazmi, Bureau Chief

Al Ain: A UAE Air Force aircraft crashed yesterday in sand dunes near Al Ain International Airport, official sources stated.

The F16 Block 60 reportedly belonged to a team participating in Al Ain Aerobatic Show, which starts tomorrow. The pilot, however, survived unhurt.

Police sources yesterday confirmed the crash. Authorities are investigating the incident, according to WAM news agency.

The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, organisers of the Al Ain Aerobatic Show, did not provide any information to the press.

Eyewitness said the pilot was on a practice mission for the air show around midday over a desert area close to the airport.

The plane crashed between the dunes, and emergency services rushed to the spot. An eyewitness said the plane caught fire after hitting the dunes, but the flames were extinguished immediately.

Many were wondering why the UAE forces demonstrations of their F16 and Mirage was pants compared with previous years. This accident was widely reported in the UAE.

Did the A380 team have to pay Pilatus for damages caused to their sign board?

Who ever built the model should have designed the real thing, the nose looks much better.

Great action shot of the crash!!!

Maybe the camcorder strapped to the tail fin had something to do with it:confused:

I heard the crew of the A380 would be made up of one pilot and a dog !!!

Is this true ????

The dog's there to bite the pilot if he touches anything !!!!

Pilot's there to.....yes ! you got it...feed the dog.

Doh !

I expect it won't be the last F16 to go that way, after all look what happens when you give this lot a fast car to play with! :ouch:

The pilot was from General Dynamics.

Give a little more credit to the local drivers here as the last two jets thrown away have been North American pilots, prior to the F16 a UAE Hawk crashed on an airtest with a Canadian pilot aboard, not his fault I might add.

From my other Middle Eastern experience and my current dealings with the UAE operatives both domestically and operationally I have found them great to deal with, unlike some of our other regular visiting military visitors in this airspace that frequently display a complete lack of regard for international avaition common sense. :hmm:

Dan Levin was flying a UAE Block 60 F-16 that we had just delivered
this fall. Aparently, Dan either started a loop low or had a density
altitude problem. Either way, he hit the ground in full burner with a
high sink rate. The aircraft bounced and prior to impacting the ground
a second time, he punched out. We still don't know where in all of
this he got injured, but his screwed up pretty bad and most likely
will be partially crippled and not able to resume being an
experimental test pilot.

As all of this information is hours old and has been relayed though
various sources so I can't vouch for it all being correct. From the
latest report we got tonight, Dan is in pretty bad condition. He has a
shattered pelvis, compound fractures of both feet and ankles, possibly
both shins too. A ruptured spleen, several broken ribs and a punctured
lung.

Wishing you a speedy recovery Dan

Might have been good if it had "BOEING" down the side of it.

Shame the model maker didn't work for Airbus, it looks much better than the real "flying pig".
