In Dar at the moment and need some info from people in know about Precision Air.
1. Is it a good company to work for?
2. What is their safety record like?
3. Is it true, that they pay the highest pilot salaries in Tanzania?
4. Are they hiring?

Really need this info-the good and the bad urgently. Thanks in advance to all.

Cant speak for the cash but flew them last December DAR ZNZ DAR, flew the first sector on a pretty sweet PC12 (although a little well used) and back on their Van. Aircaft looked in good shape and the pilots were both friendly. Ground staff good too. Although the baggage guys tried to rip me on excess luggage!

Probably one of the better airlines in Tanzania imho.Have they actually offered you a job?

Soap Box Cowboy
16th Jan 2006, 16:27
Well personally I wouldn't work for them for various reasons.

Their safety record is good in regards to the lack of fatalities but they have written off Three of their LET-410's two in the last year.

As a foreigner you will NEVER get command.

And the salary is deffinetly not the highest here by far. Dar is expensive to live in regards to accomidation and what little you have left will go towards repaying your 20,000 Euro loan which you got in order to get the rating :ouch:

So if your willing to be screwed over and be one of those little  who pays for his rating and then gets shafted then Precision is for you.

In regards to Deskjocky's post. You flew with Coastal. Precision air does not have Caravans or PC-12's

Dear Soap Box Cowboy,
would also never work for Air Excel too?

2 airplane crashed in 12 months

They ask 5000USD for training on the C208

Payscale verly low Arusha is expensive to live in regards to accomodation and what little you have left will go towards repaying your 5000 USD loan which you got in order to get the rating on the C208

As a foreigner you will NEVER get any other job with any other company in Tanzania if you live them ,or at least they will everything to make you appera in a not good light.

Just would like to know if your point of you it is the same for Precision Air and for the Air Excel because looking at the facts they have the same pratics ,according of what you wrote in your post.
Thank You
Sincerly

How can U compare Precisionair with Air Excel. The first one is an airline with Atr-42 fleet, the second one is a bush charter operator with 206 and 208 and only one 406 that can be touched by the owner only.

I just have to ask (dammit- why do i do this) Ricco Suave, did you actually work for any of these companies that you are slating?

"How can U compare Precisionair with Air Excel"
European champion ,
what you are saying is that if an airline loose 2 airplane in 12 months it is "bad safety records", instead if a charter company loose 2 airplane in 12 months ,which is almost 50 % of their fleets,it is just a bad luck?
So you are telling me that there are 2 different way to see the same situation?
Thanks
Sincerely

I saw this post and just could't resist adding my 2 shillingi's!!!!!!

I worked for Precision for exactly one year. From my experience with them most of what has been said on this forum so far about them is true!!!

1) As a Forigner you will NEVER NEVER get a Command!!! Unless ofcourse if you came in as a Commander, they did have quite a few Malawian Commanders on the ATR fleet!!!

2) The Racisum issue is definately there but you also need to add in Tribalism as well!!! Even if you were a Tanzanian but not from the "Chagga Tribe" your'e condemed to life on the right seat!!!

3) Paying for your Rating if you are not a tanzanian is a definate there. In my time there I was asked to pay for Rating on the ATR42 which I declined to do in favour of investing that kind of cash else where.

My advice take it or leave it. If you are type rated on the ATR42 with very few hours on type and you want to do some hour building so that you can move on to a company with better long term prospects then go for it. In comparison to most of the companys here in Tanzania they look after you so long as you do your job with no further aspirations.

Personally for me Precision was a good experience, I'm glad I did a year with them. I'm also happy that I chose to move on and do other things.

I hope that helps!!!!!

Pete.

Oh just one more thing!!!!

Ricardo every single post from you seems to be crying about one operator or another for what ever reason!!!! Without even having worked for them!!!! No Operator is perfect!!!! Cheer up Buddy!!!!

Happy Landings!!!!!!!!!!

at least I do not cry or worse I do not "call for revolution " just because the
chicken brest is too small , like someone else does all the time in this forum. In any case it is better that other pilots knows what to espect from those operators so that can be ready in case they choose to work for ,because remeber that follow the flow like you are trying to do petesevenseven , will make you moraly responsible of any negative situation would happen in the small world of the aviation. So what you wont to tell me about ? that i need to work for a company before to speak?Sure So tell to Mike from Air excell he have done to several pilots in Tanzania ,including my self.I lost my job opportunity with Selous company thanks to him of course now no one wil talk about right? Then I receive several P.M. of others pilots that they have been suffer thanks to Air excel of the same problem or even worse That is crying?I saw his C206 in Arusha ,that airplane was linking oil from every where .It was in terrible condition, infact than it crashed,so do I need to fly a piece of junk and then crshe before to say that airplane was in bad condition?
Like I said to Mike at the airport in Dar 'I will never work for you".

Hey ricco,

Mate I have been supportive of you in the past, however. You have done yourself a great diservice with your attitude and willingness to shoot your mouth off. I was flying over a lovely part of AFrica two days ago and had a conversation with a mate i had not talked to for a while and guess who came up in the conversation......YOU. He had tales to tell about your time in SA and how you blew it down there, apparently everyone there knows about you. I think they have your picture behind their desks with "DO NOT EMPLOY" in big red letters under it. Sorry mate even big soft cuddly bears like me have given up on you.

No comments from you pete77(about my cuddliness), keep the study up tiger.

Dear helldog,
I do not know what kind of support have you been giving to me ,I only know what kind of support I have been giving ng to you when Mike was talking not so well about you that day when you were leaving him.
Anyway I do not know who you have been talking with in SA about me ,of course he is a lyer ,but I never had so much support from every pilots there at that time then in all my entire life I could say that I had the most wonderfull time in SA, if there are several company that wont hire me it wont surprise me and that is because I fight for the rights of the pilots I always have done that and I always will do it .I am not the type of guy that hide him self behind the "omerta" .If someone wanted to play hard ,hard will crash down .I received several PM message telleing me all the sort of problems has been creating Mike there and many of them wrote to me that can not support me because there are afraid of him. This situation soon or later will end in Tanzania and any where there is this kind of situation.I saw finally many pilots in this forum "calling for revolution"and not just for a small chikken brest , but it is time that this egemony of those operators that have been pushing down over the limits ths "pilot' will end.
Every where and every body are starting to talk ,pilots are starting to ask for their rights ,such to fly safe , to be paid and so on .Look at all those post in this forum and others forum .From Tanzania to Zambia , from South Africa to Algeri all over Europe and America .I saw new Pilots assotations born lately ,I saw several Air company closing down because nobody want to work for them. I would suggest you to come and speak up such some one else not long time ago have been telling you .Belive me you wont get better job shutting you mouth off .Yo are big enough do not be afraid any more.
Sincerely

Well Ricco, how have I supported you? Originaly I replied to your PMs with information. I seem to recall that when you were given a hard time by others here I stuck up for you. Mate I am sure that initially most people would feell for you, I know you have a family and you need to work.We have all been there. But hey man you have been a bit vicious. Fine you found the deal in Arusha not to your liking. But you dont have to say the things you were saying mate. You have no idea what the story was with my engine failure, you have not seen the reports from Pratts or any other report. Plus you insinuate that I will fly in unsafe aircraft. As for the other engine failure, well that is another story altogether, and I am not at liberty to discuss that. Just take it easy. Good on you for standing up for your rights, but hey you take a parting shot at everyone, they are either dodgy or cheap or racist according to you. Mate with your hours you should be able to get a job in Europe and not subject your wife and kids to a big move andlife in some backwater, but that is your business. Why can you not find work in Europe?

RICCARDOVOLANTE
19th Jan 2006, 15:10
Dear friend helldog ,
first of all I never talk about you engine failure and I never will . When I supported in tanzania was for another story that someone was putting around.
About 'unsafe airplane" yes I do belive that there are quite few "unsafe operations"look the bad safty records of several company there .
About job in Tanzania ,please mark my words well,Mike make me loose the job opportunity with Selous company , I was there when he scared Charles and not only that the last words of Charles were that he could hire me anylonger because Anna ,the manager of Costal, was abset with me due to the fact 1)I didnt tell to her husband that I went to Arusha and I knew Mike ,I know that do not make any sense butb that is the way.
2)that He , Charles,do business in Tanzania and so he does not wont abset Mike because he his afraid of his attitude.
Now I lost my job thanks to Mike and not because I did not like the offer in Arusha. That is all clear?
Talking about "Racial" problem wahy do not look hyow many members of this forum talk about it?Look at few post before at what Peter77 say about Precision Air:
"The Racisum issue is definately there but you also need to add in Tribalism as well!!! Even if you were a Tanzanian but not from the "Chagga Tribe" your'e condemed to life on the right seat!!! "
And look what serengeti vulture say also:
"They operate ATR's and will only hire a non black if you get the rating at your own cost."
I can keep going on showing many different post where you can find several "Racial "issue.
Other think if you look at my post I said the reality of the fact regarding several companies some bad some good.Like NAC from SA ,those guys are very professional to my point of wiew ,I had the chanche to talk with several managers and pilots and both appear to me very nice people ,but when we talk abot others company such King Air air service ,well at that point I can tell you all the worse possible.
Now I have been living and working in several parts of Africa it is my choice and that is it, I do not have to explain to any one why or why not.In whaile for you Africa could be just a place for building hours and money and then leave , for me it is not.
Now I am really glad that I met you Helldog and I hope to meet you again all the best for you .Feel free to follow the flow buddy ifv that make you more confortable with you self.
Thanks for you reply helldog
Sincerely Riccardo Volante.

Ah once again a post with some merit turned in to a  slapping contest between the girlies. This was about Precision was it not? How Mike got in there I don't know. Ricci, you didn't make it so move on. Some poor sod wants to get into Precsion and we are trying to give him some advice.

My advice to you is to go see a shrink or get laid or something. If you got a problem with mike why don't you start a new little post of your own and stop screwing with posts that have some merit.

Perhaps we need to start the bitching Riccardo/P68 post:} somewhere you can vent all your insecurities

I agree with Ricardo,he has some valid points, operators who do not respect their emploees and have as main priority making money than ensuring safety for their pilots and passengers should not exist.
But this is a different subject and it should go under a different tittle!
Also a better way to stop an operator from mistreating pilots or risking passenger's life is make written reports to the authorities,by writting complaints at pprune will not do anything to them, most of them probably dont even know what is pprune.

Ricco your reasoning is quite amazing, go to a country miss out on a job and trash everyone you met there? Its crazy, its not a good attitude buddy. I advise you to keep your pprune identity a secret wherever you go. Dont worry about it I wont tell anyone about you, I wont add to your already crazy attempt to sabotage your career my friend. ANyway good luck with the search.

Crazy huh pete77? Your doing the right thing buddy.

So much crazy inaccurate info here though. P Air do hire foreigners, yes you pay for your rating but hey you have to do that for some companies in Oz in Europe. Let me tell you in the states there are dudes that pay for their ticket, as they say, then work for way less than what P Air pay. I myself am not willing to pay for a rating at this time, so I found work with a company that payed for my rating. Up to you what you want to do hippo man.

Ok back to Precisionair.Personally i think the deal could be good even if they charge for rating.Limopo if i was you i would think first if i have a better offer from another company,if the answer is no then i would consider paying Precisionair for the rating,i believe it costs more staying without salary than paying a rating and earning a salary, its simple mathematics.

Dear Riccardo.

Obviously you went in the dark side.I do respect Mike and Anna.First of all because they put they heart in what they doing and make it work with all the problem you can face.I used to work for Mike for 2 and half year and do not recognize anything in what you saying.
Second of all i am glad they had a second thought and did not gave you a job. With a such attitude you could ruin what they have been building for so many years.
Most of the guys who have been working in TZ no one of you have been forced to work for them.So if you are not happy leave but stop this non sens critizing to whom gave you bread for a while and provide you with your first step in the pilot market.

Pete;
Good luck for your study.I spoke with your sister and lost contact.I heard she is looking for me...

I wanted to comment on this but I have found myself unable to critisize Air Excel anymore, whether I want it or not.
One of my close friend (who is also Qir Excel #1 client) was here for business and during our last dinner, asked me if I could do a "real friend's favor" for him. I said yes, of course and then the funny bomb: "can you stop posting anything about Mike and his 206 on one of your pilot forums". I couldn't believe it, although I very much understood. He also had a few pages printed off Prune and handed to him by Mike the Greek. :{ Funny to read things again, months later.

Well, I gave my word, now I can't go back on it. Be it.

One thing though, I (as usual) will disagree with JP, although I understand his motivation: I think people should be allowed to express themselves on this forum.
That is the main point of having a forum.
Be it cry-babies, stories, warnings, political fighting, recommendations about a hotel, or a place to find hot African women  whatever you want, a forum is a free place to express one's opinion.
If someone else doesn't like it, then that person can just ignore the comments or reply and contradict. We can't start to use censorship of one's opinions, whether they are annoying or not. As much as it can be damaging to certain coimpanies or people. What is happening to Mike and Anna is happening all over the world, in all industries. Some characters, for certain reasons, provoke a lot of rage and bitterness, whether they were right or not. That's life.
There will always be Riccardo Volantes and JP's to argue and defend each other's side.
As long as there is enough poison for the con's and vaseline :ok: for the pro's of Mike/Air Excel.

If one company, or an owner like Mike, wants to avoid this, like the majority of the airlines/air operators out there, then just go low-profile, be cool, enjoy life and never get into someone's path because sour grapes never go, they keep coming back. A change of attitude on both sides helps things to disappear and go low. Or, enjoy the boards on the Net, because that's were opinion, for or against, expresses itself.

Lots of kisses from Cairo (very impressive these 42 years of history watching me :ok: )

I also have lots of respect for Mike and what he built in few years of Very hard work . Everybody knows he is not the easiest person to work for , but if you don't like it them leave , easy as that ...

Fair point shenzi. But you have to be 100% fair in your comments. You for instance can make certain comments about Air Excel because you have worked for them. Ricco did not. Also it is quite well known who you are so what you say is specific and you do not hide who you are, thats fair enough. But to do what ricco is doing is just plain silly.

Gentlemen,

Undoubtedly the discussion has turned out to be quite lively but it would be most helpful if I could get the following info about Precision:

1. Entry requirements (Lic/Hrs)
2. Can you start on the ATR
3. Where do they train pilots for fleet
4. Upgrade time to command
5. Pilot pay(if you already have 3000+hrs - no turbine)

Thanks to all,

As far as I know, rumour has it............

You can get in with no time at all. Your time is more than enough, you train in France and you pay for it yourself. Not 100% sure but I think they fly you there as they get KLM discounts. Also I belive they give you an allowance while you are there. Yes you can start on the ATR, unless you are a Tanzanian you will NOT get command, well if you do you will be the first. Pay I am not very sure I have heard different figures, the most common is 2000USD per month and you get some overnight allowances etc. I have also heard a crazy thing.......You pay for your training up front I think its 20 000 Euro and then you are still bonded, ie not free to leave when you want.

If you have 3 000 hours why dont you for the same money get a 737 200 rating and upgrade it to a 300 and gamble your left over cash and try to win back the cost of your training. You will be making a better choice.

petesevenseven

HellDoggy Dog!!!!

That sounds about right!!!!

Limpopo the choice is yours remember the deal doesn't get better than that as there are no promotions!!!!

With that in mind it will take you a long time to pay back your 20000 Euro loan!!!

And remember as you will also be bonded for 3 years you cant just jump ship for a company with the same type that pays more money!!!!!!

Enjoy!@!!!

I'd rather go for a Jet personally!!!!
