I am hoping that there is someone out there can shed some light on me.

I have just recieved a phone call from an airline operator in Europe asking me to come and start ASAP, once I have obtained my 737/400 type rating. I currently hold an Australian CPL & IR(multi) with 250hrs, and have just been to europe and obtained a CPL & IR(multi) from there as well, but this country was not a part of the JAA, and has just recently joined with them.

This is my first job offer but I must obtain this endorsement quickly in order to start with this new charter company. I have been told that SABENA Air was an ideal place to obtain the training, not sure!!. Can anyone shed any light on this also. Maybe someone else can suggest somewhere else where I can do it properly and quickly.

My other concern is once I obtain my type rating will this be difficult for the JAA to recognise, as I hold an Australian CPL and a non JAA European CPL.

I am thrilled about this offer and hope that everything goes well, because I have encounted alot of big hurdles in the past to get to this level. I just want my dream to come true, and continue flying.

I would gladly appreciate your veiws and comments on this topic. Please email me if you have any futher information to share with me.

"Danger, danger Will Robinson".

I hope this all works out for you but be very, very careful.

All very well for the airline to say we will give you a job once you have forked out a shed load of money from your own pocket. A day is a long time in aviation. Have they given you a contract? Even then you should talk it over with a local lawyer. Would not like to see you out of pocket with no job.

I'm sure others can comment on good places to get your rating.
Good luck.

Star5
8th Apr 2001, 20:19
Oleo, thanks for the comments, but no they have not given any such thing as contract. All I have recieved is a written letter from them that they will consider my application upon successful completion of the 737/400 course, and that they were interested in offering me a first officers position.

Just to confirm I rang him up tonight again, the flight ops director, and reiterated to him that was it clear that I will be definately starting with them once I obtained my type rating, he replied yes you have my word and the companies word, and that if nothing else goes wrong I will be working with them. His only concern was that he hoped there would be no beurocratical interference, otherwise he was happy for me to start.

Star5, be sure you know what you are doing because it is a lot of money to spend ie around 15 to 18 thosand pounds and if they then turn round and say that the job is no longer there you'll be in trouble.
Hacving considered that British Midland run courses at decent prices don't know anymore details though and also EAC in Brussels.
Good luck mate.

Get the confirmation in writing.

The letter you typed stated that they would consider your application once you have obtained the rating.

The phone call confirms that u def get a job if you get the rating. Get that in writing, the letter indicates that the job is not a formality.

Thanks for the comments SAGEY & SPRINBOK 449, you have really got me thinking now, Im having second thoughts now.

Do you really think, after obtaining the 737-400 endorsement, I would be able to find employment elsewhere in europe with the amount of hours I have? Should I take my chance?

I dont want to be continually pestering the Flight ops director with phone calls asking these questions, as I think I might change his mind in considering me. He sounded honest and sincere every time I spoke to him since the last 3 months, and has kept me well informed of all the current happenings. He even went as far as appologising for being vague during that time and not giving a definate yes or no to me, but now that the company has got its AOC and green lights he was pleased to say to me that he wants me to start with the company ASAP and wanted me to commence my training ASAP and get over to Europe.

Still confused!!

Some time ago, somebody posted a link to a website that had lots of info on Boeing 737 systems. It also had practice type rating test papers along with loads of other useful info.

Try as I might, I can't find it in the archives. Does anybody have a website address for anything along these lines?

Thanks

BMI used to do 737 ratings for private customers, give them a try otherwise I think your best bet would be GECAT in Crawley, they are very good and I understand pretty reasonable in price.. .Good luck , regards Bokkie449

As far as im aware the only 737-200 sim that is available to hire by the hour is in Dublin Airport.

The 737 in Dublin costs 320 euro per hour with an instructor

To book a slot on it call parc aviation, but give yourself plenty of time as the sim is always booked up.

hope this helps. Flighttime2.0

If you don't succeed in planning at previous mentioned facilities, try contacting this (http://www.tfc-kaeufer.de/places/essen/index.html) website and inquire for tje -200 sim.
They have one and it is mostly used for MCC training.

Maybe you can use some of the below info? :)

Source: http://www.willflyforfood.cc/AmWest.htm

Attitude Speed Pitch EPR

level 210 6 1.23

level 180 8 1.3

level 150 11 1.33

climb 150 13 1.7

level 150 11 1.33

*descent 150 8 1.04 just above idle

*level 150 11 1.33

*level 125 13 1.5

*climb 125 16 1.82-1.85

level 125 13 1.5

descent 125 8 1.2

level 125 13 1.5

During final acceleration from 125 to 210:

Pitch reduce from 13 to 6 and power from 1.7 to 1.23 where you started.

* = In case you do a different profile which would include 2 climbs, one at each 150kts and 125kts.

Plan level-offs from climb about 50' prior and from descent 100' prior.

Pitch is the most important factor. If you maintain these pitch settings you will be able to make small adjustments to power to maintain airspeed and the EPR will then work as a "Ballpark" figure to glance over to see what the power is set at.

This profile is a butt kicker the first time you do it and that is why the prep is so important. Your wrist will get a little tired from always banking back and forth and climbing and descending.

Dear Captains and First Officers,

I'm B737NG rated, but would like to know B737-300.

Anybody can explain specific differences between these fleet?

(for example, instrument and switches, performance, technical skills etc.)

If you can send me any materials(AOM, POM etc.) will be very grateful.

Please PM me.

Thank you previously! :ok:

This is a forum for people who would go "coo!" upon entering a 737 flightdeck and therefore be of little use to you in explaining the differences.

I suggest you repost on the tech log forum or similar. Alternatively the excellent http://www.b737.org.uk/ will give you a lot of info very easily.

Cheers

If Oxford can fit you in, they've got a 737-400. However the sim is very booked up- they might not be able to fit you in before you need it. And if you did get a slot, it would be at 03:00 or something.

Give Gail Longhurst @ OAT a call to arrange.

Also there is the 737-200 at Simtech, Dublin. Contact Parc and they may be able to set you up.

There are only two genuine 737-200 sims in Europe. Parc Aviation have one based at the Aer Lingus training facility in Dublin and offer airline prep courses (mainly using FR pilots). The other is Ryanair's own sim at EMA, but it is not available for private hire.

Bournemouth has a sim centre with some classics installed - B727, L1011 and Bac 1-11. All good for raw data scan.

Try using www.smartcockpit.com. Plenty of questions on there which are divided into sections based on FCOM 2 i.e automatic flight, hydraulics, etc. I used this site together with those already mentioned whilst studying during my TR.

Gullyone, you obviously either have messages from Pprune trapped in a spam filter, or you ignore your e-mail. The phrase in your first post "just keeps the sims busy and me in a Job" indicates that you have a financial interest in the device you are advocating, and thus your posts constitute advertising, which is strictly prohibited here.
