If I want to put a background into a word document, for instance a nice fill gradient from white to red top to bottom, i go to format/background/fill effect/gradient and then select the 2 colours and top/bottom.

Trouble is, it tiles the effect over the page.

Looking at it in page review i get 2 repeats of the tile, but when actually printed on a4 i get about 6 repeats, making it look very stripy!!!

Not what i want at all. Does anyone know how to make it not tile?

stickyb - you can't change it. It will always 'tile' to fill the page. The way around this is to put a full page graphic in the header.

stickyb - what version of Word are you using? My Word 2003 seems to give a nice even gradient.

Version is 2003.
The number of repetitions is different between print preview and actual printed document
