Could any knowledgeable person tell me if you can exercise the priviliges of a UK commercial license for private flying on a Helicopter type you haven't operated for some time.Or put another way what are the recency requirements to fly on a PPL(H).

Wasn't it 5 hours every 13 months, or a ride with an instructor? Or has JARs changed all that?

No, it has changed with adoption of FCL-2.
See below.

revalidated within the validity period.

of the rating; and

(2) at least 2 hours as a pilot of the
relevant helicopter type within the validity
period of the rating.

The revalidation of an IR(H) shall be combined
with the type rating revalidation requirements in

Thanks very much, so for private use, you need a check ride and 2 hours on type if the rating has expired ( i.e. more than twelve months since the last check ride). That's exactly what I needed to know, Cheers
