First of all, happy new year to everyone...
I clearly remember that MAS was reacruiting a lot of pilots since last summer. I saw couple of "after interview" comments then somehow, it just became silent.. Does anyone have any idea? If u know, plz inform me...

If you are looking for a job with MAS, this is a good time to apply. As to weather anyone knows what’s going on……..no! Not even MAS know what’s going on.

Every employee knows what is going on in MAS.
Every Malaysian and many foreigners know what is going on in MAS.

Nobody knows what is going on WITH MAS.

The last expat who was taken in (an ex-pilot) is gone from MAS. His last drawn salary was in the region of usd2000 A DAY!!!!!!! That's pretty good pickings by any standard, considering that MAS lost about usd2 million in 6 months.

Nothing to laugh at.
Plenty to cry about.

MAStake, what the hell are you talking about. No one gets paid that amount unless his name is Bill Gates. The expats I know that worked at MAS and even now, are being totally s crew ed by MAS. MAS/MAPA have refused to acknowledge the contributions of expatriate pilots of the years and made it well known! How?

By not back paying the last pay rise. Now how racist is that! Don't tell me they are not MoU, because the local pilots on Contract also got back paid. Of course that pussy footing organisation MAPA went into bat for them - NOT!

Anyone who is contemplating working for MAS or joining MAPA, be warned, you will be dealing with curruptible, inept individuals who are only interested in looking after themselves AND sycophant friends.

Have a nice day.

Well, MAStake are you an employee of MAS. If you are, and know what is going on, what have you done about it.

I am no longer an employee and as such cannot do anything about the situation much as I would love to.

For those interested in the going-ons at MAS I suggest a quick perusal of the local news about 2 weeks ago. All the information about his salary (usd 2000 a day) and other details are there for public viewing. No he is not a pilot although, as stated in an earlier post, he once flew for the world's favourite aiirline. Believe he was there in ANZ when it went down in 2002. He was employed by MAS as a senior general manager before all this info was made public and he "resigned."

There is no intention on my part to engage in an argument on racism and how unappreciated the expats are although they came with tons of experience to teach the natives what aviation was all about. I have spent enough time in the cockpit with locals and expats and I know the difference.

Ferry, B738 are wet-leased. same as B742 with MASKargo.
Airjae, if you are holding an Indon or Iraqi or Bangla passport, not only you will get hired, you will be on jet fleet, even on B744 if you are lucky enough, even locals won't get a chance to join MAS, not even on Twin Otter. :yuk: :yuk: :yuk:

Thanks for the clarification. I know I spoke with a couple of Orang Puteh expat Captains who were flying the MAS 738's. As I am sobering up, I do recall them telling me of the ACMI arrangement. What puzzles me is why there are carrying expat cabin staff. Is that some DCA requirement?

MAStake

738s are on wet lease.

To clarify the situation there are no expat captains on MAS wide-bodied pax aircraft ie: 330, 777, 744. Only the 742 has expat captains and they fly cargo. There appears to be very little or nil possibility of expat captains ever flying the big pax aircraft.

Wouldn’t there be a possibility, with delivery of new aircrafts coupled with the exodus of pilots to the ME. Or did the local drivers run cold feet at the moment of truth!

Although the combination of warm desert sand and substantial remuneration have taken their toll the sad truth is that MAS still has quite a pool of local pilots who are satisfied with their lot in life and are unwilling to make the move to greener pastures. In addition to this there are a great number of first officers who are well beyond their command dates and who will be ready in a snap to move to the left seat.

With the reduction in the number of new destinations there will not be a demand for expat captains in MAS (if ever there was.) Most of the captains in the wide-bodied fleets are relatively young and now there has been an extension of the retirement age to 60, so go figure.

The moment of truth??? Well, the truth is that the pilots got a 25% pay rise and an extension of their flying life to 60.

Is there any other truth?

In the newspapers today,

Idris Jala issued a memo to staff that they will move out of the MAS building in K.L. The move will start this month and should be completed in June.
The move will be to Subang airport and to KLIA.
Building to be sold.

Short term cash gain, but if everybody keeps his position as is, from board member to janitor, nothing will change, i.m.h.o.

That being the status of affairs at MAS, I can see the non-requirement for expiates on the higher fleets. It is also excellent to hear of the 25% payrise for local drivers, well deserved! However has this materialized or just talk of D`Toad & management. I would really like the facts on this as I will be in KL just after the CNY. Will call up my mates in MAS for a beer. Guess who`s buying the rounds!

MAStake

25% payrise has been in effect for a few months and increase in productivity allowance was back-dated. One result of this was a mini-exodus to the middle east after the agreement was signed.

The Toad and his cohorts seem to be hanging on by a thin thread but that's only for now. It appears that the new CEO will demand accountability and you know where that leaves the Toad. It'll be history for him as he drives away in a cloud of dust in "his" beemer.

Enjoy your visit to KL and you can be sure you won't be buying the drinks.

I was with them for quite a few years and really liked the people I worked with. Management is something else!!!!!
Good that my friends got a raise in salary ----- they deserve it.

I left for greener and colder pastures and have never regretted the move. Can afford a luxury car on my own unlike getting one through the blood and sweat of others!!!!!!

Whatever happens MAS is not going bellyup. There are just too many important factors for this company to go bust. So if you want your jet ratings, this is the place. Clock your hours, keep your mouth shut for a few years and get the hell out.;)

Dear Iso,
Where have you been Sir,
You brought up some interesting things about MAS and the MAPA.
Please come back here and tell us more. Spill the beans please, especially about how the expats were not represented by MAPA and the rasist element in Mas. These are favourite topics. Tell us all the details please Sir.
Are you a pilot with us Sir (MAS). If yes would you please help us do something about those things mentioned.
C'mon Sir.

I am an ex MAS crew. Left MAS 10 years ago due to the racist environment. The whole airline was rollicking with this element. At Flight Ops, guys who had mud in their heads were installed in check airman positions. That is not to say all were fruitcakes. Quite a few were very good. I left during the ‘camel’ era. What a fruitcake he was. I`ve seen this nut grow to power from the time he jumped into the left seat. He played the race cards openly at his panicle. Practiced total arrogance as he was TRs dog inwaiting. Then came Dr.Con, not a bad chap, but just did not know the ass & the elbow of the plane. Finally D`Toad. What a circus it`s turned out be, he,he,he!
