Wifey's birthday is coming up - Sunday 3rd to be precise.
She saw a telly programme with autogyros in it and expressed an interest in having a go.
Anyone know of places doing dual instruction near Wiltshire ? Roger Savage in Cumbria is a bit far, and I did hear of someone in Kemble, or is that old hat now ?
NR, Was the programme the "Salvage Squad"? If so, saw it myself and have had the same inkling to have a bash. Anyway during the programme the engine was re-built at a specialist at HENSTRIDGE. (about eight miles west-ish from Compton Abbas) He (sorry no name) also had a simple dual machine that was towed behind a car!!! The gent was an instructor and a PFA engineer. I'm afraid that i don't have any numbers. Hope you can sort it all out.

Actually it was the "Classic Aircraft" thing which was on C4 or C5 some weeks ago, which kicked off with a bit about Ken Wallis.

they used to meet at melborne disused airfield nr pocklington yorks on a saturday they had a dual trainer they towed behind a car sorry no numbers . .another no number is to try cmdr ken wallis in anglia area [wallis auto inventor

Try the British Rotorcraft Associations webpage - has all the info about instructors and places to get lessons. As far as I remember, there's Carlisle, Yorkshire, Henstridge, somewhere in South Wales, somewhere in Kent, the distributor for the RAF 2000 who's based in Devon, and I know there were seven in the country so must be one more somewhere <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Well, you can fly gyros in some reasonably nasty conditions. My trial lesson was in what felt like a howling gale in that open cockpit - probably around 25-30kts in reality. And that was in the Northern wilds of Carlisle. <img src="eek.gif" border="0"> But that's probably not ideal for a first flight really.

Having been a passenger on one of the things when it came apart while being towed.....take out some very good life insurance on the missus....buy all you can afford! Buy her a real helicopter ride or a ride in a classic airplane....or a hot air balloon trip...glider course....parachute jump...or even a bungee jump....something that is safe. One man's opinion! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
