Hi BOAC,
Many thanks for your instructions. The only problem I have is that there is no IMG icon/drop down menu above the text box. Do you have any idea as to why?
Cheers

Yes - I'll modify the post, as it appears you have only got 'Basic Editor' selected (at the bottom of your 'User CP'/'Edit Options').

Select either of the 2 other options - and don't forget to 'SAVE':)

Can you tell from there what I did wrong? (Gnat/Hunter thread).

Fareastdriver - sorry - haven't looked at this thread for a while. I cannot see what the problem is unless you could post in non-ATI where I can access the detail of your post/pic - unless you are sorted, of course.

Looking for some help. I use Picasa web albums as image hosting for Silhouette Challenge. The image does not always display on some forum members pc's. They show on mine, and certainly some members can see them, but not all. Any ideas?

Here is a sample image (if you can see it!):
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_BBfCRtiY3Hg/STg4SVgvYLI/AAAAAAAACCI/ijoRgaY6Dvg/s512/sihouette%
If you can't see it Properties are:
Protocol HTTP
Type JPG File
URL http://lh5.ggpht.com/_BBfCRtiY3Hg/STg4SVgvYLI/AAAAAAAACCI/ijoRgaY6Dvg/s512/sihouette%
Size 25282 bytes
Dimensions 376 X 512 pixels

Skytrain, I can't see the image or open the link... I copied and pasted the link into a new window in IE7 and got a "can't find it" message.

You quite sure that's the full path?

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_BBfCRtiY3Hg/ST...512/sihouette%

Is there any log in required to view the image? I can't see Photobucket at work due to net nanny, but I can see it OK here at home and I would imagine that Picasa would be the same.

I have no problem seeing the image or following the link, skytrain.

I'm using FF2.

This is really strange...one of you can see it...one cant!

Treadders, when I click on the link in your message (which I guess you've copied from mine), even though its identical to mine, I can't open it!
Picasa web albums does require me to log in.

And yet Saab can see it ok.

Confused!

To say this is confising (to me at least) is an understatement. The URL for the image as it appears on the properties when its inserted in my posting is different from what appears after I post it!

The URL below:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_BBfCRtiY3Hg/ST...512/sihouette%
is the URL after posting or when in Preview mode. It is not the same as the URL for the image itself! I tried to type out the URL as it appears on the image in Picasa and put that into this message, but as soon as I click preview it changes back to the above URL.

I am no expert on computers so there is probably a very simple reason for this....or is there?

Link works if placed directly into Firefox and Netscape. Does not work in IE as I get a "Windows cannot find" etc. message.

Don't know if that helps but at least it's more info than we had.

skytrain10

None the wiser...surely I would have a problem viewing the link myself...I use IE?

I'm guessing its a Picasa problem, so will try a different picture hosting site.

it will download an easy loader for you and away you go just follow the instructions

to put the photos on pprune click on the small pic in photobox to make it bigger , right click on the pic and select properties and copy the long file name making sure you get all of it ! ie jpg is the lst bit into the image box on pprune and ther you go

I have been trying to post photos also without success. I have followed the above instructions to the letter and like a previous poster I do not find the box opening after clicking insert image. I have tried all three editor options but still no joy. I am sure you must be getting really irritated with these questions, I considfer myself fairly computer literate but I cannot crack this one. Any thoughts, help etc greatfully received.

Hi QP

You will recall I was having problems posting pictures. Some people could see them, but most could not.

It appears that the cause may have been that Picasa (whose web albums I was using) conflicted in some way with the PPrune picture hosting. On some occassions pictures posted fine, but within the last week or so the original problem reoccurred whereby the URL of the picture changed after posting or in preview mode, with the result that no-one could see my pictures.

So have taken Mike's advice and now use Virgin Photobucket, which seems to work fine.

If anyone out there has experience with Picasa and has experienced a similar problem (and resolved it!) I would like to hear from them.

Thanks
Ken

Ignore my last message! Just used Virgin PhotoBox to download a picture to Silhouette Challenge. The picture displayed for about 20 mins and now will not display. Checked the properties as shown on Pprune and they are totally different from those of the picture. Here is the picture, followed by what is now displayed:
http://img3014.photobox.co.uk/27806329617664efaedd66a0a7dcf7c15ac7c2ead8184b445f1096e20854 f042cf15dd7b.jpg

And here is what is now displayed on silhouette challenge:
http://img3014.photobox.co.uk/0486290432bcf191620e88eb4e21201e5754568e17135a05f9e34a4ee2ed 22c1e7bae9c1.jpg
Of course to the viewer they may look the same!
Any ideas???

I joined this forum yesterday BOAC and followed your instructions to the letter.
Yesterday after a couple of trials, image showed up. today although I used exactly the same procedure it doesn't work yet in the last panel of Edit Options I have been using both times "Standard Editor-Extraformatting controls".
I get a correct URL address on the message box but after clicking on "Submit reply" button, it is exactly the same URL that appears on the post and not the real image.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong (I'm uploading from Mozilla Firefox)?
Thanks for your reply

This is funny because I'm a member of other forums requiring attachments and once procedures are mastered everything runs smoothly.

Hi MReyn,
it looks like I made it this time and maybe I now have a future in the forum! Isn't this a beautiful pic of the Reggiane 2001 (the only thing I do not very much like is the inscription "Duce" at the front of the hangar)?

Hi Carson1934,
Interesting: it appears to be the first prototype of the Re.2001,
the MM 409, after the modification which consisted in removing the radiators intakes
from the wings leading edges and re-positioning it on the aft under each
wing (as in the original design) but, more importantly,
the version depicted is certainly before the removal of the glass from
aft cockpit canopy decking: I had never seen a real photo from the side of
this version.

After all the trouble I gave Mreyn and Skytrain concerning image hosting you might be interested in learning that by using Imageshack or tinypic I have now no problem in uploading pics into the forum.
By using photobucket instead the recipient can see the image and I can't.

Help. I've been trying to add a photo to a post and it keeps coming up as a thumbnail. I have I think reduced it to 800 X 590. URL is http:/s665.photobucket.com/albums/vv15/oxenos_photo/th_DR.jpg[/IMG]If any ace out there can add it to my post of yesterday Ref Dave Rostron in military aircrew, or tell me how to do so I would be most grateful.

oxenos,

Help. I've been trying to add a photo to a post and it keeps coming up as a thumbnail.

That is probably because you are copying the direct link URL from the thumbnail in your Photobucket album.

Double click your thumbnail and it will come up as a full-size image. Copy the direct link URL from there and the image should now appear full-size when you post it.

Download Irfanview free, it does resizing, scratch removal, background colour changes and a host of other things. Probably not as good as Photoshop but very adequate for individual simple pic corrections.

See IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide (http://www.irfanview.com/)

The secrets of image posting appears to only ever be releaved by PM

Test:
I have a choice of URL to use on my 'photo dump'
They are:

Dumpt - Image Host (http://www.dumpt.com/img/links.php?file=9m8lguhgcjofrepfy59e.png)

Dumpt - Image Host (http://www.dumpt.com/img/viewer.php?file=9m8lguhgcjofrepfy59e.png)

[IMG]http://www.dumpt.com/img/files/9m8lguhgcjofrepfy59e_thumb.png (http://www.dumpt.com/img/viewer.php?file=9m8lguhgcjofrepfy59e.png)

and

<a href="http://www.dumpt.com/img/viewer.php?file=9m8lguhgcjofrepfy59e.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.dumpt.com/img/files/9m8lguhgcjofrepfy59e_thumb.png" border="0" alt="Dumpt.com"/></a>

I don't think I can get any of these to work with the 'Insert Image' icon at the top of the reply editor.

What obvious mistake am I making?
.png?

how can it be that hard?

AnFI
21st Feb 2016, 16:14
it worked by not using the "Insert Image" icon

Tinypic does provide six different resizings and a default, of wich the one aimed for 'message boards' are 640x480!
The resizing is to be chosen as the first after the picture have been picked!
