Anybody see the ASCOT 5212 today at FALA? heard the 124.5 then they went over to FALA and i lost track of them from there,as i was still 124.5.
I believe "Ascot" is the callsign of the RAF so it must have been one of theirs...any gen on acft type and where they came in from?

Good to see FALA getting some nice aerries anyway.

Cheers,Cb

ASCOT normally used for RAF C-130 operations.

Used to be 'Royal Ascot' - flight planned RRR123 for example. May have changed though. So what type of aircraft is at LA?

Rusty
Most RAF aircraft fly under Ascot callsigns, from Hawkers to C130 to VC10. Even heard a Canberra and a Nimrod the other day buzzing around the adriatic.

Interesting. From what I've gathered reading in to the military forum, it's a C-130 thing.

Live and learn.....;)

Probably on its way to FAOH - the RMs normally have an exercise early in the year at the Infantry school - probably the lead party.

If it is the case, you can expect to see several of them around the Cape area, including the odd Tristar and VC10 every now and then ........

126.7 - I agree. Heard all types of pom, military related aircraft use this call sign. Even Prince Phillip when he flew to SA in the BAE146 years back.

ASCOT is the r/t callsign of the RAF, like springbok is to SAA.

Like a certain oversized Mirage Pilot was known as ORCA ... and the skinny chopper jock as GARFIELD. :E
