HI
Can someone please tell me when the Jaguars are due to leave Coltishall and when the airfield is due to close?
Anyone know what the plans are for the future use of the airfield and the aircraft?

The airfield is due to close on the 31 March 2006 when 41 SQN will disband. At this time 6 SQN will have moved to Conningsby and there Jag's are due to retire in 2007 I think.

The claw was correct with the comings and goings of 6 and 41. 6 are due to finish flying Jaguars in Oct 07, at which point I need to find a new steed! Hopefully something quite fast and pointy. Not medium paced and with a giant hair dryer on the front. Desk Officer, are you listening?!
I could be mistaken (although I was night flying only last night) but I have never noticed any 'strobe approach lights' here. Maybe I just don't look out enough!

Reminds me of the one about the pilot asking the Air Traffic Controller 'what's the difference between VASI's and PAPI's then?'
Controller replies 'you're a pilot and you have to ask me?'

Hope you all don't mind the revival but a quick thanks to the crews of the Jag's t'other day for the free airshow, who flew over the back garden rather low in a very pretty formation. Didn't realise it was for the closure of Colt.
Shame to see the base finally close.

Keep an eye out tomorrow Joe for the next part of the convoluted Jaguar story.
41(F) Stand down for the last time, and the new 41(R) OEU stand up.
Should be a parade, and decent flyby around Norwich.

After a scan of the local rag apparently they formed up off the coast and flew in over Colt and Norwich Cathedral, which is the only reason i'll see 'em being in Gorleston.
Definately a shame... both parents did tours at Colt, infact it's where they met, which is why we're settled here. Many a good free airshow there an' all!
Hopefully the local news will cover it and i'll catch some of it. :sad:

Considering that Colt had "the Freedom of the City" - I can only assume it might have been seen as a bit "Jingoistic" to mount a parade at this time?
(Or there wasn't the manpower?)

Didn't see alot our way (read as 'didn't see anything') despite cloudless skies most of the day.
I heard the Spit flypast was cancelled? And one of the Jag's didn't get away?
Rigga, was there not a flypast at the Cathedral? Or is that tomorrow for the thanksgiving?

Yep, Spit and Hurricane canceled due to WX, one Jag went U/S - it was the CS 65th Annaversary one. They did the overflight of Norwich last week

The spotters were out in force at Coningsby for the Coltishall fly pasts yesterday. They've already got the pics on the internet!

Coltishall did indeed officially close yesterday and all of the remaining Jaguars (apart from one which went tech) had departed by 4pm. The assorted aircraft that are left at Coltishall (a Harrier, Jaguar and one or two others) are expected to leave over the next few days.
6 Squadron is now active at Coningsby with Jaguars, together with the re-formed 41 Squadron (former FWOEU) with a mix of Tornado, Harrier and (for the time being) Jaguar aircraft (with Typhoons to eventually follow).
